This is hilarious. A whole bunch of quotes in that article talking about how Boise is acting like a "spoiled teenager." The truth is, if the situation warrants it, there's nothing unreasonable about their request.

I get that Boise keeps getting the short stick on all this realignment stuff but I'm kind of surprised by your opinion on that. Seems to me what they are trying to do is be an independent within the framework of having the scheduling security and championship pursuit of being in a conference. Doubt it would go over too well if this were UT or OU doing that to their fellow Big 12 members.

I'd be reacting a lot differently if this were UT or any other school, but Boise's pulling this out of necessity. I enjoy watching the underdog make smart moves.

I agree, but I'm not convinced their strategy will work. Like BYU going indy, it could simply be a case of cutting off your nose to spite your face. And if the strategy fails, can you imagine how humiliating it would be for the program? The blow it would be to their confidence?

It's a high-risk/high-reward gamble. I hope it pays off for them, but I'm not convinced it will.

Every program's best long term interest is always served by sharing equally with conference mate.

"Better is a meal of herbs where love is than great riches and trouble with it." Poisoning the waters with resentment among conference mates will prove a poor decision sooner or later--ask UT.

Boise needs to figure out which conference their presence helps be the strongest, and join that one.

This is ridiculous that Boise thinks its that special that it can hold its own first and second tier rights within a conference.

What they need to do is give up on the Big East debacle, call BYU to meet them at the Denver Airport and form a new west of the Mississippi league where those 2 choose the rest of the members.

Good for Boise, it never hurts to ask..... If they don't get it (which I don't think they will) then they would have lost nothing. If no BCS conference is willing to take them then its up to them to try and make the most money they can it a lower conference. Just business. I think the conferences would be dumb to give Boise this, but its not dumb for Boise to at least ask.

Conference re-alignment has been all about $$$$, no reason for Boise to not try and make the most that they can. Seems like everyone else is looking out for themselves, so should Boise.

Boise State is asking for a Notre Dame - ACC deal, whether either the school or the conferences realize it or not.

Is Boise to the BE/MWC what ND is to the ACC? Seems to me that ND couldn't swing this deal with either the B1G or the B12.

I doubt Boise has this much swing. But for the precedent value, I'd wish Boise the best. But their success would set a bad precedent.

The precedent danger, of course, is UTx and maybe OU trying to pistol-whip conferences.

I don't blame them. They're desperate to stay competitive and the gap between the "haves" and "have nots" is about to grow even further with the new huge TV contracts for the big 5 conferences, playoff revenue, networks/tier 3 $ etc.

They need to find every dollar they can to stay relevant, and they're uniquely positioned by their recent success to pit the "big east" and MWC against each other and draw a sweet deal.

You have to assume Boise's long term dream is the PAC. To get there it'll cost a lot money for the entire school, take time, and require continued athletic success.

That seems to be the solution to me. They need to recreate a conference like the WAC of the 1980s. The only school no longer available is Utah and Boise could have their old spot. Swap Fresno State for UTEP and add Nevada. Then go with the remaining 1980s WAC lineup. The conference would be strong, regional, and could be a stepping stone into the PAC for one or more of the programs. The makeup would be BYU, Boise, Fresno, Nevada, SD State, Hawaii, Wyoming, New Mexico, Air Force, and Colorado State.
