Bo Jackson

Watching the 30 for 30 special on ESPN about Bo Jackson.. I knew he was amazing, but didn't know he was the greatest athelete to ever play professional sports (I came to that conclusion)

Wish I would have been old enough to see him play live... unbelievable

Watched him at Kaufman stadium many a times, dad took me to a lot of games in KC....I agree, beast of an athlete, maybe greatest.

I've watched it 4-5 times and sportscried every time. I was just 10-12 at the time but there was no bigger sports figure for us. We were fortunate that KC was in the AL West back then and got to see him on TV and in person on many occassions. I remember when we'd play football in PE or in the neighborhood we'd pick players to represent. I'd be Marino, my neighbor would be Dorsett, others Montana, Rice, etc. NO ONE picked Bo. We were in such awe of him we knew we weren't worthy of being Bo. Then a skinny black kid moved to our street and he dominated us so we deemed him all-time Bo.

Anybody remember the cartoon show with him in it? I think it was called All Stars. It was Jordan, Gretzky, and Bo.

As a Royals fan he did make the highlight reels with the occsional spectacular play but wasn't really a consistent baseball player. He struck out quite a bit, was not really clutch, and the Royals never made the playoffs with him in the lineup. This was the when the Royals were good, they won the world Series the year before he became a Royal in 1985 and Kaufmann was spending big $$ on free agents during that time period.

NIKE made him a huge star. He deserved it for Football but he never deserved it for baseball.

While certainly the greatest athlete to ever live, his personality reminds me a lot of L.T. in how humble, how much perseverance, shy type personalities, married to only one woman, etc.

Great story, you should read his biography written many years ago.

Probably the greatest athlete, but certainly not the best baseball player. His batting average was nothing special. He was amazing for being the guy who played football as a hobby.

Bo Jackson and Marcus Dupree are the 2 greatest athletes i ever saw play in person and the two greatest athletes to play colle or pro ball in my 48 years imo. That 30 for 30 on Bo failed to talked about the most amazing thing about the guy as far as I am concerned. He would routinely make a single out of a run of the mill hot grounder to short or 3rd. These major league infielders would scoop a hot grounder and look up in their throwing motions and he was crossing the bag.

Did we all forget about Jim Thorpe?
Bo Jackson would wipe his [Craig James] with Jim Thorpe. There really isn't a comparable running back since him. Dude is Adrian Peterson and ------ put together. I really can't think of a baseball player like him. Fast as hell with an absolute cannon. Yes, cannon.
