Bill King on Gary Patterson

Don't know if anyone else heard it this morning, but Bill King went off Texas and Mack Brown this morning, calling it a cluster___ among other things. Pretty much said TCU has a way better coaching staff and organization than Texas. Also said that if HCGP was coaching Texas and Mack Brown was coaching TCU, he has no doubt Texas (Patterson) would have won that game.

He's not saying anything we don't know, but it was great to hear it from a national source.

I thought Bill was going to blow a gasket talking about UT. He has big respect for Gary and TCU. Nice to get that perception out there from a variety of sources.

I sure wish everyone would just be quiet and allow Texas to keep Mack for another 5 or so years. I like the trajectory of their program. I still have Texas fans that tell me, "just wait 'til next year. We just need one more year and we're going to be nasty!" Some day they'll be elite again, but I'd like to keep plugging along before they get there.

Keep Mack!

UT has some issues, most of their problem is based on how it recruits and evaluates talent. In addition to missing big time hiring Manny Diaz.

UT recruiting needs to be reorganized and refocused. They get a lot of highly ranked players which is not the problem. Texas's needs quit trying to get all it's talent early. It's safe to say that while novel when instituted, the idea is a failure. 2nd, the program needs to get rid of the politics that go along with UT recruiting. I believe most of the missed players have been because of the politically that go on at UT. Some of its the good old' boys trying to play recruiting expert and pick who should play. The other part of the problem is the my daddy/brother/6th removed cousin once played for UT and now you have to let me play there as well.

UT flat out missed when it hired Manny Diaz. He was the hot name coach and ran a fairly safe SEC defensive strategy. I believe Diaz's failure can be attributed to the over valuing of the SEC in general. Besides SC and formerly Ark, the SEC never really has had a lot of fire power. SEC DC never need to get too crazy. They mostly stack the line and try to stop the run (for the post part). Unfortunately, that defensive strategy doesn't work with huge powerful offenses found in the Big 12. A couple of years ago I think UT could have beat Alabama if McCoy ouch my shoulder hurts didn't get injured. I believe the big 12 offensives and defenses are superior to the SEC. (Not trying to say the SEC doesn't have any great Defensive minds. I believe Kirby Smart, Will Muschamp, formerly UF Charlie Strong (Louisville HC) as well as other, are some of the best D game planners in the game.)

While it is funny to watch the chaos from t-shirt fans down in Austin, UT is not ruined yet. Yes, the program has fallen but not to a level that it couldn't get back up. My main concern is that they will find a DC and a QB (not likely as of now) and be a come back to be a force in the Big 12. Luckly, I don't see their offensive Qb problem getting any help and I think Texas will stick with ram it up the Diaz for one more season.

I think next year will be a turning of the guard in the State of Texas as for the Big 12. UT has proven that entitlement also beings laziness.

Ha ha. Agree. One note: What anyone says on a message board has no bearing on the firing of head coaches. Sorry to burst your bubble (2314 will crap his pants if he gets an argument on this  )

I will argue for the simple reason that I think it would be funny to read about 2314 crapping his pants...

All points valid.
But, what about "the culture" of being a Longhorn?
I think once they get down there, chasing women, boozing and drugging are the priority over making themselves better football players. They get the "rock star" treatment, especially with their slutty coeds (have you heard the Colt McCoy stories? Geez, that guy had restraint), and they quit working hard and the coaches don't know how to handle it.
Of course, not 100 percent of them. But the majority.
Am I wrong? You seem to be close enough to know what is going on down there.

Yes, I've heard of the rock star status and partying at UT. However, I didn't think it was necessary or appropriate to mention because they are students and their private lives don't need to be made public. "Beer and Circus" is an interesting book that is some what on the subject you might want to check out. Drinking and parties happen at a lot of schools not named BYU. Nothing new.

Again, I think something is going on down there. How can that school with all of its four and five star recruits, big money budget and endless support be so mediocre? Have a feeling, in time, something down there will go public and my point will look spot on. It has to be something other than bad QB play and bad coordinator hires. Has to be.

actually 2314 you are wrong
you underestimate how incredibly sensitive the ut fan base is to any attack on their self perceived eliteism
no matter the source

UT has a long history of being mediocre. Look at the Pre-1996 years, early Mack years 1996-2000. Only difference is UT can't go over the NCAA 85 limit. This rule created equality in football and destroyed the strangle hold that many of the large state schools had in recruiting. What ut t-shirt fans are witnessing is that equality is occuring in colllege football and they dislike the fact that the advantages their program have held for many years are no longer available. Elitism and entititlement goes hand in hand with laziness and mediocrity. UT players are told they are the best of the best. As a result UT players don't lift as hard, don't practice as hard, and don't have a hunger to win.

Aka the opposite of Frog Factor!
