Lehtonen has played his last game as a Star.  And thank god for that!  Defense was bad, but not that bad.

Yeah no. He's signed through 2017-18 at $5.9M, and if he's as bad as you think he is, then he's practically untradeable. Enroth is not a starter, and Campbell is far from ready.

Besides, Kari was fantastic every year prior to this one, with absolutely worse defensive squads and lackluster offenses. I'm more than willing to give him another year to get it together and have a healthy and experienced group in front of him.

Poor starts to seasons, bad goaltending and their inability to score on the PP, especially at home, has been their hallmark for several years now. Those are recipe for failure, which has become a common occurrence in Dallas for a handful of years. Being in the West doesn't help their cause either but it shouldn't take this long to rebuild. But I don't care which conference you're in, missing the playoffs 6 of 7 years puts you in the loser category. You can make all the excuses you want but the bottom line is they aren't winning and haven't for a long time.

This is a seriously flawed and simplistic perspective. This team is only a few years into new ownership/GM situation. Since you mentioned you were a Pens fan, you of all people should understand what a terrible team looks like. The Pens had 4 straight years of 1st or 2nd overall picks, which they used to get Fleury/Malkin/Crosby/Jordan Staal. The NHL rewards being a loser, or being awesome. The worst place to be is where the Stars were post Zubov/Modano/Lehtinen. No high draft picks to replace them, and poor scouts to identify talent within their system. But that changed.

The core of the team is all under 25 and signed for the next 4-5 years, all without having a draft pick better than 10th. Benn/Seguin/Nichushkin/Klingberg/Nemeth/Ritchie/McKenzie. That's far from being a loser. Edmonton and Buffalo are losers.
