Big Mac Blog: Why Gary Patterson may scrap the 'Frog Walk'

By Muck Angle

FORT WORTH, Texas - Trying to establish a new tradition, Gary Patterson and TCU have done a 'Frog Walk' before every home game. Just as many college teams do elsewhere, the players and staff walk as a team through the tailgate scene/campus to the stadium. It may be fun. It may be a way to connect with fans. It was also new, and thus far at the renovated Amon G. Carter Stadium the Frog Walk has yielded nothing.

"I'm superstitous. We may cut that out," Gary Patterson said on Tuesday.

Why? Despite playing in a wonderfully renovated stadium, the team has been dramatically better on the road than at home. There is a very good chance all of TCU's wins in the Big 12 will have come on the road, and not a one will be at home. ...

At the game Saturday, I walked by as the Texas team entered the stadium. Lines of people were there, including some of the programmed prettiest women you will ever see. Swoopes, a top recruit, was standing in the crowd.

Somehow, it didn't help their football team much, but it did illustrate just how pampered football players are in this day and age. The frog Walk doesn't affect our play one way or the other. But when Verrett told the press, "we saw that formation on the post all week, and were ready for it". He intercepted and that is why GP is a better coach than Brown. He goes back forever studying ever scheme. Verrett and all the defensive players sense the genius of GP. They know he is the smartest guy on the block. Look how much they have improved during the season.

He outworks everybody because he wants to win more than anybody. Just watch one practice and you will understand. Well, you can't go to practices anymore, another aspect GP figures to help him win....
