Big Mac Blog: Time is coming for TCU to make a call on Casey Pachall

By Muck Angle

According to a pair of sources, former TCU quarterback Casey Pachall has completed the necessary paper work process to re-enroll at TCU in the spring. According to a source, all of the necessary requirements for Pachall to return to TCU have been met.

As far as Pachall actually returning to the TCU football team, however, no decision has been made - that's according to TCU media relations director Mark Cohen. TCU's fall semester is about to end, students have already enrolled for spring classes, so an announcement should be coming sooner rather than later.

On Oct. 9, TCU head coach Gary Patterson announced that Pachall was going to disenroll from the university to enter a treatment facility. Patterson left open the possibility of Pachall returning and re-joining the football team in the spring. That announcement came after Pachall had been arrested for driving while intoxicated a few days prior. According to Patterson on Oct. 9, Pachall needed about two semesters worth of credits to graduate. ...

GP will do what is best for everyone and will be a man of his word. But Boykin is the starter and should be considered as much. He has earned so much respect this year, some big wins, helped carry us to a nice bowl game. I feel this is his team and his job. Pachall would have to earn it back on and off the field with his coaches and teammates.

Not going to click it.

I'll spare you the trouble. The Cliff Notes:

When Casey was the starting QB with an apparent tendency toward care-free substance abuse [big steaming pile] was writing that he should be benched for an arbitrary number of games determined by a local beat writer because doing things the right way was the most important thing. Now that Casey is the presumably returning former starting QB with an apparent tendency toward substance abuse [big steaming pile] is asking whether TCU can hope to win ten games with Trevonne taking the snaps because winning whatever it takes is the most important thing.

The article wasn't that bad. Does Casey have great skills? Yes. Will there be some unfortunate attention to Casey and the program if he comes back? Yes. Will there be some sort of QB controversy if Casey comes back? Yes. No shocking revelations. Other than Mac being a second rate writer for a second tier paper in a dying industry, it's fine.

I agree on points one and two, but point three I am not so sure about. Casey is by far the better QB at this point...any controversey will probably just be GP and staff forcing Casey to earn his way back a bit.

Mac, Here's how a coach of integrity like GP will "make the call".- Casey, I'm glad you got re-enrolled at TCU. Good luck with your next 2 semesters. I look forward to seeing you at graduation. I hear you did well during re-hab. I'm proud of you. I can't wait to see you at spring practice. Treyvone really stepped up last year and did a good job in a tough situation. Matthews is going to push him too. Obviously, you'll get your reps too. QB is like every other position during spring. Whoever plays best gets the job. I'm glad to see you back. Good luck. Casey, I'm really glad you're back.

I don't expect any announcement, sooner or later. Pachall will just show up in class, or not. Don't expect TCU media relations to say anything one way or the other.

Rest assured that TCU's core of excellent wide receivers will

not be reluctant to welcome back a QB with Pachall's ability.

Casey adds a dimension that was often absent in this past

season's offense. Boykin will still have three years remaining

to hone and display his considerable talent. Pachall's return

can only be considered a definite plus for next year's football

fortunes. May the best QB win....

If Pachall completed his program and goes through Spring without any complication, give him the job. He will give us 3-4 more wins than with Boykin.

As long as CP has met the criteria GP asked of CP, then CP will be on the team. It will be up to CP to win the job back. As we all know with GP, nothing is given, but earned.

As for chemistry, I trust GP on that
