Big Mac Blog: TCU's win in Austin is fun but it is not bigger than this ...

By Muck Angle

Back from a week off ...

Even if TCU defeats No. 11 Oklahoma on Saturday in Fort Worth on Saturday it will not trump the Frogs' most recent win in Austin against Texas on Thanksgiving.

Even if TCU defeats TBD Team in the SomethingWhateverCorporateSellout.Com Bowl in December it will not trump the Frogs' most recent win in Austin against Texas on Thanksgiving.

That 20-13 win against UT will be the biggest highlight of TCU's first season in the Big 12.

But stop any chatter about that win being the biggest in the Gary Patterson era. Texas may have been ranked No. 18, but that is an average team. These are not your Vince Young or Colt McCoy Horns. The Frogs may have been the underdog entering that game, but it should not be a huge surprise they won. ...

Absolutely agree the Rose Bowl is far bigger deal than beating a mediocre UT team in Austin. I don't agree that knocking off OU on Saturday would be less of a big deal than beating the Horns. We didn't join this league be give Big State U a black eye when we can and do no more. We joined it to win championships. That means proving that this program can beat the league's gold standard is the most important statement we can make in our first year [except for actually winning the league, which is now out of the question]. Even if UT was better this year than they are, OU would still be the Big XII's gold standard. And they always will be. They're number one, and that's who I want to beat.

UT being a bigger win then OU is more about what it does for us in state. Yes, in terms of "shock value" and all that, OU is the bigger win (assuming we pull off the upset) since they're a much better team all around. But a Texas school beating UT, at home is going to be big. For us, with the year we've had it was huge.

He's spot on. Other than the MNC there is no bigger gem than a Rose Bowl trophy, However, representing the conference in the Cotton Bowl would be good medicine for my old, troubled SWC soul.

Had a chance to meet Mack and Jen at a TCU tailgate for the Kansas State game. They were very nice. No devil horns or forked tails or anything.

He is spot on in this blog post but I think beating OU would be bigger than beating Texas. First conference win at home...closing out the season...they are a better team than Texas yadda yadda. Although, I bet Patterson would tell you if he could have 1 win of the 2 he would have taken the Texas win on Thanksgiving.

The reason beating UT is more important than OU is recruiting in the state of Texas. On a national level, OU may be important. But since recruiting is the life blood of a program, the. Beating UT has significance in the minds of high school players in Texas. However, the Rose Bowl victory still looms larger in the minds of recruits IMO.
