Mack Brown and the Texas Longhorns will wrap up a mildly disappointing season Saturday against Kansas State. The Longhorns were considered a Top 15 team in the preseason, but played embarrassing run defense (despite having three players who will go in the first 64 picks in next April’s draft) this year, ranking 105th (201 yards per game) out of 124 teams. Also, their QB play has been poor, an issue that has plagued the team since Colt McCoy graduated.[/background]

Not to say anything nice about Mack on this board but . . .

the story down here is that Mack's staff "talked to" the Manziels about Johnny coming to UTx as a defensive back. It's not clear at all that UTx was anywhere close to an offer, even one of those Mack Brown specials-- we'll offer if we're damn certain you'll take it.

Sounds to me like UTx may have been approached, and was being polite to the Manziels and/or the Kerrvert coaching staff.

Same with TCU. Manziel apparently mentioned in an interview, the subject of a thread on this board, that he wanted a TCU offer, but that one never came.

IIRC Mack really did offer Griffin as a defensive back only-- what a miss-- and there was no mutual interest between TCU and RG3.

The story says that Will Muchamp confirmed that they recruited him for defense.
