OU's Perine Record On Ground Too Much For Kansas

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - As Samaje Perine churned up the yards, the rain-soaked crowd at half-filled Memorial Stadium chanted his name.

The Oklahoma true freshman rewarded those who braved the elements with history. He set a major college record by running for 427 yards, scoring five touchdowns to lead the No. 23 Sooners over Kansas 44-7 Saturday.

''It's still surreal,'' Perine said. ''I just looked at it as doing what I had to do to help my team. I'm not really feeling special in any type of way.''

A week after Wisconsin's Melvin Gordon set the mark by rushing for 408 yards against Nebraska, Perine ran past him. He broke the 7-day-old record on his 34th and final carry, a 42-yard run with 12:16 left in the fourth quarter. ...

Baylor Takes Care Of Cowboys

WACO, Texas (AP) - Bryce Petty threw touchdowns on Baylor's first two drives that took less than a minute combined, putting the No. 6 Bears ahead to stay in a 49-28 victory over Oklahoma State on Saturday night.

Playoff-contending Baylor (9-1, 6-1 Big 12, No. 7 CFP) won its 15th consecutive home game on a dreary and rainy night along the banks of the Brazos River, staying in a three-way tie with No. 5 TCU and No. 12 Kansas State for the Big 12 lead with two games left.

Devin Chafin ran for 106 yards and three touchdowns, while Shock Linwood had 113 yards rushing with a score for Baylor. Corey Coleman extended his nation's best streak with a TD catch in his seventh consecutive game.

Oklahoma State (5-6, 3-5) has lost five games in a row. That is its longest losing streak since also losing five in a row during Mike Gundy's first season as head coach in 2005, and the last time the Cowboys didn't go to a bowl game. ...

Tech Comeback To Defeat Cyclones

AMES, Iowa (AP) - Freshman Patrick Mahomes passed for 328 yards and four touchdowns, the last a 44-yard fourth-quarter toss to Kenny Williams that lifted Texas Tech to a 34-31 victory over Iowa State on Saturday.

Iowa State led 31-27 lead on Aaron Wimberly's 3-yard touchdown run early the fourth quarter, but missed a chance to extend the lead when Cole Netten's 42-yard field goal attempt hooked left.

Tech (4-7, 2-6 Big Twelve) then marched 75 yards in seven plays for the game-winner, which came when Mahomes found Williams all alone in the right flat and the 228-pounder rambled untouched to the end zone with 4:07 left to end the Red Raiders' three-game losing streak.

Iowa State (2-7, 0-7) drove into Tech territory after Williams' touchdown but gave up the ball on downs when quarterback Sam Richardson was stopped just short of converting at the Red Raiders' 31. ...

Kansas State Gets Past West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - Jake Waters' special night has No. 12 Kansas State back in a first-place tie in the Big 12.

Waters threw for a career-high 400 yards and a touchdown, Tyler Lockett returned a punt for a score and No. 12 Kansas State held on to beat sloppy West Virginia 26-20 on Thursday night.

''The receivers did a good job of getting open,'' Waters said. ''We had a ton of open receivers and we just went out there and made plays. I felt good throwing the football.''

Kansas State (8-2, 6-1 Big 12, No. 12 CFP) rebounded from a blowout loss at TCU to move into a tie with the idle Horned Frogs with two weeks left in the regular season. No. 6 Baylor can make it a three-way tie for first place with a win at home Saturday against Oklahoma State. ...
