Jones Leads Sooners To Bedlam OT Victory Over Oklahoma State

NORMAN, Okla. - Bob Stoops would rather face a lifetime of mass interview sessions than pick a favorite player. Given truth serum, the Oklahoma coach might fess up and admit that Landry Jones is probably on the short list.
Among the many things that Stoops and his senior quarterback has in in common is they are treated like a piñata at a birthday party.
When Oklahoma State jumped to a 14-0 lead Saturday, a national writer Tweeted that Stoops' agent needs to look at some major coaching opportunities because the OU program has gone "stale." Since Jones' interception led to that two-touchdown lead, no doubt a number of Sooners "fans" were thankful this was Jones' final game at Gaylord Family/Memorial Stadium.
Bedlam being Bedlam, four hours after kickoff plus an overtime, Stoops was standing on the field watching his players and the fans rocking to House of Pain's "Jump Around, which made its debut in 2008." That's because Jones engineered a game-tying drive that led to Brennan Clay's game-winning, not-to-be-denied 18-yard touchdown run that gave the Sooners (9-2, 7-1) a 51-48 overtime victory.
"We just do what we do," Jones said on the field during a post-game national radio interview. "These last two weeks have really been fun." ...

Baylor Defeats Texas Tech In Overtime
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Glasco Martin scored on a 4-yard run in overtime and Baylor overcame three missed field goals, including one on the last play of regulation, to become bowl eligible with a 52-45 victory over Texas Tech on Saturday.
Nick Florence threw for 396 yards and three touchdowns for the Bears (6-5, 3-5 Big 12), who didn't lead until Eddie Lackey's 55-yard interception return for a touchdown on the first play of a wild fourth quarter.
Lackey's second pick, with 1:46 left, set up Baylor at the Red Raiders 32. But Aaron Jones missed wide left on a 48-yard field-goal attempt.
After Martin's second TD run, Texas Tech (7-5, 4-5) started overtime with a holding call and two incompletions. After a 15-yard pass set up fourth-and-5, Seth Doege's pass to a well-defended Eric Ward was incomplete, ending the game.
Doege completed 30 of 40 passes for 359 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions. Ward had nine catches for 113 yards, and Darrin Moore had 13 catches for 186 yards and two touchdowns. ...

WVU's Austin Long Run Enough To Take Down Cyclones
AMES, Iowa (AP) - Tavon Austin turned a touch pass from Geno Smith into a 75-yard touchdown with 6:31 left and West Virginia held on to beat Iowa State 31-24 Friday to break a five-game losing streak.
In the first game between the two schools, the Mountaineers (6-5, 3-5 Big 12) trailed 24-23 when they took over on their own 25 after Iowa State's Edwin Arceo kicked a 49-yard field goal.
Smith took the snap in shotgun formation and immediately flicked the ball to Austin cutting in front of him. Austin, who had been held in check until then, turned the corner and easily outran the pursuit down the left sideline.
Iowa State (6-6, 4-5) then drove to the West Virginia 7, but Jeff Woody fumbled into the end zone and Karl Joseph recovered for the Mountaineers, which ran out the clock.
West Virginia became bowl eligible for the 11th straight season with the victory and could enhance its postseason position with a victory over Kansas at home in its regular-season finale next Saturday. The Mountaineers' losing streak had been their longest since dropping six in a row in 1986. ...
