Big 12 Expansion

Was I supposed to type something here?
Hell, he's only 55! A relative pup! Still wet behind the ears...

He does have some leverage with ESPN, in that their Crown Jewels of UT and OU are still chained to their Conference contractural responsibilities. Bowlsby declined to engage in legal action against ESPN, even though he has them dead-to-rights for tampering. That is another leverage point, one that wouldn't look terribly well for ESPN, or UT and OU, should discovery come to pass.

Delivering the stake to the heart of the PAC is an objective, with the hope of taking home four new Conference mates. Sending UT and OU into the rising Sun, while extracting maximum concessions out of ESPN for their exit is another. Guaranteeing the future of the new SouthWest Conference with a multi-year broadcast contract, leveraged with the two previous points, is the endgame.

ESPN also has the MWC. This bargain basement holding gives them late-night content to bleed off any rival's ratings should FOX come sniffing around looking to poach the PAC. It also gives them the "We're the only game in town, suckers" card they've been playing in the event the rump PAC members wish to stick together as a Conference, because they pretty much are. The PAC options are: 1.) Stick together and look at a much reduced payout, less control over their fates, potential lengthy GOR, and decreasing relevance as a Power Conference. 2.) Doing a group rendition of 'Happy Trails' and split up into whoever will take them, with the four rumored members packing their bags for the BIGXII and maybe a couple more coming along for the ride. The rest would probably find homes in the MWC.
MWC football as their primary PT evening game option on Saturday’s would be a bad outcome for ESPN.

Mountain west TV contract is now with Fox and CBS which started last year.

Only 2 PAC schools probable joining the MWC would be WSU and OSU. The ones that don't end up in the BIG or Big12 would probly end up going indy.

I'm still unclear on how the ACC-Pac idea could work if two thirds of Pac members need a solid, long-term contractual commitment from Oregon and UW while two thirds of ACC members' biggest cubeb is not to change their league's contact one iota, least they give Clemson and friends legal grounds for divorce. What good does a loose agreement for TV revenue until Oregon bolts, maybe tomorrow, do Arizona?

We did the same kind of lesser pay out when we joined the B12. It is a standard and they are aware of the price of stability. Also thing of the B12 as an equal opportunity conference where no team is expected to dominate year after year. No bad team with a reputation as a big state school will be over rated year after year. It will be highly competitive and entertaining as the best teams will have the opportunity to prove just how really good they are without playing soft schedules with rigged outcomes.
