Big 12 Baseball Tournament moving in 2026

That’s incredibly stupid. If you’re moving it from DFW, at least go back to Bricktown. Why move it far west to a smaller stadium? Feel sorry for the east coast schools.

This is very for telling. Looks like swapping WVU, Cinn, and UCF for Stanford, Cal and SMU is happening. Good plan for a con that makes geographic sense..

But it's a dry heat.

Yep exactly. Moving from a centrally located dome stadium just south of one of the largest airports in the country, to a smaller, crappy, insanely hot venue that’s far for all but 2 schools, and having to deal with one of the worst airports in the country is just stupid.

Someone at the Big 12 needs to explain themselves…

I could understand if you were preemptively announcing a move to the new A’s stadium in Vegas. Hell, the why not the Diamondbacks dome stadium?? But some crummy outdoor stadium on the outskirts of Phoenix? C’mon.

Sure looks to me that this was a decision by Globe Life, not the Big 12. Numbers were not going to work on their end and either pulled the plug or came back with a $ # (much lower because of going to single elimination=less parking, concessions, higher staff cost, etc.) the conference couldn’t stomach. Think it boils down to the Rangers telling them to take a hike and sent the Big 12 into scramble mode for an available venue. Oh, well. It was really fun while it lasted.

Think attendance for this tournament will be horrendous because of numerous reasons.

so bad....late May in Arizona in a really average Cactus minor league spring training facility - forget going to the games all day unless a trip to the ER that night is in your plans...

Yeah I believe the Big 12 was the only conference using an MLB ballpark (and a dome) for a postseason tournament. B10 uses Schwab in Omaha, ACC uses a minor league park in Durham NC, and SEC uses a small former MiLB park in Hoover AL.

One year i was covering state baseball in Round Rock and me and another reporter decided to go watch James Loney play. There wasnt enough room in the press box so we sat out in the stands and roasted for about five innings before deciding it was way to hot. Can't imagine trying to watch four games in a day in Arizona.

I read it is the spring training facility for the Rangers and Royals so it should be a great set-up for the teams. Players should love that atmosphere. Maybe the distance from the airport or downtown is a bit inconvenient for fans but that should be manageable; they do it for MLB spring training. The infield canopy in the SW corner of the stadium should cover 90% of the infield fans during afternoon and night games and that may be 4-5000 of the stadium’s stated 10,500 capacity?
