Big 12 axes their preseason football media poll

I think pre-season polls are fun because it at least gives you something to talk about and “fight” with other fanbases to get the juices going. So personally not a fan of this.

Now, if they want to do this with ACTUAL season rankings, that’s fine by me. I think it’s stupid to start the season with any kind of ranking when there’s so much turnover every year at every school. Maybe wait until the end of non-conference or mid-season to start looking at metrics and records to start ranking teams.

All these polls do is generate clicks and expose the sports media whom somehow always avoid responsibility and criticism for their ridiculous picks.

These preseason polls skew the rankings throughout the year.
They do, but by the end of the year their impact is minimal. And just think, there are actually people here who think what a team is ranked when you beat them is what is most important, not what that team is ranked at the end of the year. So if you beat a team that is ranked #3 in week 2 and they end up going 6-6, they think that should still count as beating a top 5 team. But if you beat an unranked team in week 2 that ends up 10-2, that should still count as a win over an unranked team. Yes, there are people who believe that. Obviously, it’s almost always in cases that helps their preferred team in an argument come CFP selection time.

there are still plenty of polls from almost every media platform. classic click bait. the b12 is simply no longer validating one by its media perhaps because they have been shown many times awful at the task.
