Austin American-Statesman: Big 12 newbies struggle with higher altitude

TCU, West Virginia learned some hard lessons in year one.

Imagine if West Virginia’s offense could be combined with TCU’s defense. The Big 12 might have had a dynamic new force. Or at least another Texas A&M, which went 10-2 and won a Heisman Trophy.

But back in the real world, the Big 12 roll-out seasons for Mountaineers and Horned Frogs were an eternal struggle. They each served up half of a good team and took a lot more lumps in the land of big-boy football than they were accustomed.

Both finished 7-5, just 4-5 in the Big 12, and scratched their way to lower-tier bowl games coming up Saturday.

The results were particularly galling for West Virginia, bringing with an experienced 10-3 team that rang up 70 points in the Orange Bowl. ...

The last line should have been: "And Texas, which has been a member of the big 12 since it's formation, lost to both teams at home."

So this is the crap the Statesman is reduced to writing when there's nothing left to say about their sorry Longhorns' chronic ineptitude? Sad.

Exactly. Apparently the Whorns can't play "Big Boy Football". What a clown. At least we know Teabag's real name now - Kevin Lyttle. Here is this idiot's bio. Quite a long and distinguished career!

One comment so far, that I'll quote before it is reported and edited:

Hey Kevin - I can think of one thing these two teams have in common. They both beat Texas in Austin this year. How about another similarity? Neither team got embarrassed like UT did when it got destroyed by Oklahoma. Almost all their conference games were very close and competitive.

Does that mean the Whorns don't play "Big Boy Football"? Wait until TCU's young stars are another year better next year.

Not to mention "didn't handle the altitude" is stupid phrase to use when talking about a team like TCU who just came from the MOUNTAIN west conference.
