Arizona Republic: Decimated TCU just happy for bowl bid

It’s not one of the glamour bowls this time around.
But coach Gary Patterson was ecstatic to be back in the Valley on Monday with a TCU football team that lost its quarterback after a 4-0 start, played 16 true freshmen (28, counting redshirts), lost one overtime game and survived its first season in the Big 12.
The Horned Frogs (7-5), welcomed at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport by yellow-jacketed greeters and a mariachi band after arriving Monday, will try to put positive closure on a challenging season Saturday when they play Michigan State (6-6) in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl at Sun Devil Stadium.
Three years ago, Patterson arrived for the Fiesta Bowl with a seasoned team that lost to Boise State.
This team lost as many games as Patterson did in four previous seasons total. But considering the personnel losses, there is joy in getting to a bowl. ...
