Arizona State cruises past Nevada in First Four play-in game, advances to face TCU

Michelle Gardner

DAYTON, Ohio - Arizona State and Nevada were the last two teams that made the NCAA field, relegating both to the First Four play-in game in Dayton. They came in with similar records, with the Sun Devils a two-point favorite.

The Wolf Pack could have only wished it was that close.

The Sun Devils (23-12) were dominant from the opening tip-off and cruised to a 98-73 victory at the University of Dayton Arena on Wednesday night.

They shot crazy ...
ASU shot 71% (21-for-31) which included an 8-for-13 from long distance.

ASU did it on both ends of the floor forcing eight turnovers in the half against a team that came in averaging 10.23 per game. ASU had a 10-0 advantage in points off turnovers as ASU had only one. ASU also had a 24-4 in points scored in the paint.

ASU did not look like a play-in team. We better D-up!

mentioned this in another thread, but p5 programs should not be included in a playin situation

asu played 34 games this season and if their resume after all those games is not good enough to get them in too bad

there is no consistency to who is in a playin game and who isn't

you had texas southern vs fairleigh dickinson and nevada vs asu in another

why?

The "last 4" auto bids go to the play in and the "last 4" at large go to a play in.

I agree though it's excessive and unneeded. If you can't unequivocally show you belong in the tournament over the course of the season then you have a chance to win your conference tourney and if you can't do either of those things then sorry try again next year.
