AP: Bengals' Dalton gets 2nd chance in hometown

By JOE KAY

CINCINNATI — Andy Dalton is getting a second chance to shine in a hometown playoff game. The first one didn't turn out very well for him at all.

The Bengals quarterback had one of the worst games of his rookie season in front of a lot of family and friends in Houston last year. He threw three interceptions, including one that J.J. Watt returned for a touchdown, in the Texans' 31-10 victory in the wild card round.

Dalton grew up in suburban Katy, Texas, and had never lost a game at Reliant Stadium, where he played twice in high school and once at TCU. He's excited to be going back for what amounts to a second chance to look good in the playoffs.

"It'll be fun," Dalton said. "There's a lot of family and (friends) around the Houston area and in Texas in general. It's definitely cool to come back and play where I'm from." ...

I didn't realize the Bengals didn't have an indoor facility. The practice conditions from last year sound miserable.

It's pretty amazing that most colleges have better facilities than some NFL teams - even a mid-major school like Cincinnati...

NFL teams don't have to recruit like colleges.... might be part of it

Sorry to do this to you Andy, but go Texans (though it makes me mad that we are even playing this weekend as we should have showed up the last month and gotten a first-round bye).

Texans will probably win this game, but then they will get clobbered by the Patriots or Broncos. I'll be shocked if it's not Manning vs Brady in the AFC/NFL championship game.

I have no confidence in the Texans, not the way we've been playing. If I had to pick it, I guess I'd take us, just because we're at home and when both teams are at their best, we're better than Cincy. But Cincy is coming in to the playoffs hot, and we're limping in backwards.

Not sure what happened to this team, but we've gotten progressively worse the entire season. I never thought we were world beaters, but we were better than this 'crap'-show we've seen the last month or so.

I think the key to the game will be the Bengals' DL vs the Texans OL. If we can establish the running game in order to open up the play-action, we win. If not, we lose

I haven't quite jumped on the fire Kubiak train yet, but if we lose to the Bengals at home, I'm on it. Terrible ending to this season.

Oh and draft a QB in the first three rounds. Schauby isn't a winner. Very solid, reliable QB but doesn't have that game changer gear that you need to win a Super Bowl. He will consistently get you to 10 win seasons, but I'm not sure he can take you to the promised land.

Losing home field advantage was the death of the Texans playoff hopes. We will lose in the 2nd round for sure.

Was I supposed to type something here?
The stupid Texans were done when Mangold cheap-shotted Brian Cushing to end his season. It has just taken the rest of the League a little while to find the weak spots in their defense. The Texans have not made any adjustments because they don't have the personnel.

The Bungles have a pretty good shot at winning and will have a better chance than the Texans on the road against the Pats/Broncs. Schaub is not Champoinship materiel. Can't win the Big Game. Makes hideous decisions in the clutch.

Funny to think that AD is a seasoned Playoff Veteran, while Schaub is a Playoff pollywog. heh...

Now that the Cowboys self destructed—again—is it okay for us to cheer for Andy, or will 2314 jump us again for not being 'real' Cowboys fans?

I agree that Cushing's injury had a significant impact on the defense, but the offense has sucked balls this past however many weeks as well. The OL just isn't where it needs to be, and we don't have any legit threats at WR besides Andre (the other 5 oversized white dudes aren't getting it done).

Hopefully Andre and Arian can go beast mode and carry us to some victories.

This will be the 3rd year in a row that either JJ Watt or Andy Dalton will end the other's season.

Wonder what the record is there?
