I think for the most part the committee got it right. If Notre Dame wants a guaranteed spot they can join a conference! If I’m the committee watching them pout right now I’m having doubts about ever putting them back in the playoff. In the future if they don’t like the seeding are they going to not show up?

I like they didn’t drop Bama out for losing the championship game. I don’t think the 13th game should hurt you. I don’t think it hurt BYU. I thought it was a must win for BYU. The team I question the most in the playoff is OU. I could argue they should be below several schools. ND, UT, BYU. They did beat Bama so now we get to watch a rematch.

I don’t really agree with all that but I think that’s a reasonable opinion.

Not only OU, but Ole Miss as well. When I look at outcomes of their games I don’t see much there that makes me think they are all that good. If ND played either OU or Ole Miss tomorrow, they’d be favored by about a TD. Why would they be favored by that much if their resume is not as good?

Join a conference? They will do no such thing. They will just continue to live off a decades old title. Oh, and guarantee an antitrust law suit.

Don't understand how Oklahoma is in this fiasco. Notre Dame should be playing Alabama rather than having to watch a rematch of Alabama Oklahoma. Do we really need five SEC teams in this.

Don't blame Notre Dame for opting out. College football has become whatever ESPN wants ,which we all know is SEC and BIG. Everyone else is on the outside looking in. College football is broken. I guess we are supposed to be happy with a nothing burger bowl game. I am not buying in to the espn bull crap.

There are plenty off good bowls that ND could have gone to, but now they are just going home.

IMO, their decision is EVERYTHING that is wrong with college football and this generation. Not playing for their school and the legacy of the brand. Playing for the $, no loyalty, no guts, no fight.
It’s a random bowl game. Bowl season is always littered with player and coaches that have mailed it in for whatever reason. Let’s not make NDs decision as some recent revelation

Is that MOU contractually binding? What’s to say the committee won’t just drop them from 10 to 13? Does this mean the #9 or 10 gets passed over for ND? Every conference has to share bowl revenue and ND doesn’t. That probably isn’t lost on the committee members.

ND played a weak schedule. What’s their marquee win? Them skipping a bowl just shows they are scared of real competition!

Yeah. they could've attended a pop tart bowl, or cheese like substance bowl.... taking your team out by choice is a more admirable statement than accepting one of these [ Finebaum ] bowls.

I'd think more TCU faithful would appreciate standing on principle & not just accepting a bowl of gruel, but clearly some will ask for seconds of the slop.

TCU got screwed and then went and kicked Ole Miss ass to prove a point. That is principle.

What happens if there is another situation like this year? Notre Dame is sitting at 12 but there's another conference champion and/or the G5 team sitting below them in the rankings. Who gets left out in that scenario?

Grab your popcorn because this is going to get real messy now. You can't guarantee all these spots to teams and keep it at 12.

So you have 6 guaranteed teams including the champs from the Big 12, Big, ACC, sec, Notre Dame and the G5 champ. That's not going to work.

I see expansion in the near future.

I see the committee telling ND join a conference or see how long you can tread water. I don’t think a conference will give ND the SMU treatment, but I could see one making ND pay a good sum to join.
