I do not know GP, met and I've only spoken with him only one time...but I believe any decision to be HC anywhere else is more of a human decision than a professional one. For that reason I think he's HOME at TCU. I don't think he'd do anything to hurt the TCU world (fans, alums, staff, students, players & former players, Fort Worth at-large) in any way - that's why I believe UTx is off the table for him today.

The level of human hurt from his leaving TCU to go to UTx would not sit with him personally. Had TCU not been invited to the B12 and we were still MWC or BE, I think that the Texas job would have enough appeal for him to say yes. But now that UTx is in the same conference as TCU and is an annual opponent, there would be too much hurt that would fester for years - it would feel like betrayal to all concerned. In theory he could remain friends with all his TCU consituencies while HC at UTx but it would be at best polite in the long term. He'd lose a lot and I think he knows it - even if he won X# of Natl Champs in Austin. He wouldn't go to Okie land or to Aggie A&M either IMO.

Now, if he went to the SEC - Arky, Tenn, Purple Alligator State, Alabama, Georgia or Florida -Orange Alligator U- (I am passing over Auburn as a step-up on purpose.) Or even Nebraska, Michigan, or Ohio State, that's about it. No one could blame him, or dis him for all he's done in Fort Worth. He'd be our friend forever - we'd even root for his teams I bet.

I'm thinking the disasterous path of Fran's career after he went looking for "greener pastures" would be enough to keep GP home for a while.

After much thought I have come to the same conclusion. At the end of the day, I think he knows going to UT would rip the heart out of Ft Worth and he just won't do that. Good man that Gary.

I agree. Personally I do not think he is that great of a coach but a couple things might help things fall into place. First, these schools seem to really place value on a Texas recruiting connection. Second, they are probably in love with his offensive mind and dream of what a school could do with just a little bit of D attached to his offense. Last, I think Auburn and Arky are not going to get their 1st picks, (Patterson, Miles, Petersen or Gruden) and will have to settle for less.

Art Briles is a pompous glad handing hick. He is good enough to coach at Baylor but would never want him anywhere near TCU.

ESPN last night said after Miles and Patterson declined that they will turn to Strong and Briles for their next coach.

Auburn fan world seems to think GP interviewed there yesterday and that they will get him. They're saying Chad Morris (Clemson OC) is also a candidate for Auburn but that he really wants TCU if Patterson leaves.

FWIW I think this is 100% BS

Personally, I hope Arky takes Art Briles. As much as we hate to admit it, Briles has been good for that program. Taking him away helps Baylor sink back down faster.

Sorry if posted recently but some dingleberry named Roussel from some coaching search website just told some Ark radio show that he felt pretty sure about Patterson heading to Arky. Lots of buzz on t witter abt it. Rumors are fun...

I disagree, though there's definitely the human element in there. You have to think of what you would do from a professional standpoint. Coaching college ball is his CAREER, and UT is, arguably, the top job in his profession. Professionally speaking, it's hard to look past an opportunity like that.

However, as it has been stated, GP is a man who's all about attaining personal goals. What his goals are is anybody's guess, but having seen his pyramid every year, I think it's obvious that a national championship is at the very top. He can certainly win one down in Austin, but he can also win one here. So it all boils down to: where would it be sweeter, at UT or TCU? I think if he stays and rides it out in Fort Worth, he will eventually win it all and it will be so much sweeter bringing a program like TCU from the dead, making it a national power, and then winning the crystal ball.

The story's already there...he just needs to stay and finish the ending. If I am blessed with a career like that in my lifetime, I will die a very, very happy man.

Also Auburn fans have been tracking a flight from Fort Worth to the small airport near Auburn. Auburn fans think Gary Patterson is interviewing. I don't see how that is possible with a game with OU this week.

Auburn was already in Fort Worth earlier this week on Tuesday. Following their trip to Fort Worth the plane went up to Boise. Pretty sure he's already interviewed, as well as Peterson. Neither are going to Auburn, no way.
