Again, not worried about this move. It is nice to have a coach that is desired by other programs.


AUBURN, Alabama – Auburn's list to be the school's next football coach is now more than a half-dozen names long, but no one has been interviewed for the vacancy created when the school fired Gene Chizik on Sunday.

A couple of new names have emerged in TCU coach Gary Patterson and Boise State coach Chris Petersen.

Auburn interviewed Patterson four years ago when it hired Chizik. Patterson has a 116-34 record at TCU in 13 seasons.

There has been speculation that Arkansas is considering Patterson, too.

Interesting that they bring this up because it was more of a lunch and it did not go well. Think CGP ended saying something to the effect he was meeting as a favor and not interested. Apparently Aub AD made a very bad impression. The meeting was in FW.

Pay no attention to the fact that we fired our coach after winning an MNC just two years ago. We promise that we will not kick you to the curb if you have a bad season. Oh, and that other school in Alabama...they don't really exist.

As were the other 10-12 candidates they interviewed. That job wasn't great 4 years ago. Now it's a school under NCAA investigation where you have to share a state with a coach that has 3 MNCs and you can get fired two years after winning a crystal football. Good luck selling that, JJ.

It doesn't worry me, he wasn't excited about meeting them back then and it only got worse. Doubt his agent even brings it up this time.

IMO, it's not a great fit on either end, really. UT needs a genteel coach to gladhand and wine and dine donors, which mack brown is. While CGP can do some of that, he'd rather bury himself at home in film study, without all of that. Add to that the weekly appearances, TV shows, desperate and semi-impatient ("But, we are texas!") fanbase, and really it sounds like a major poopstorm for a guy who enjoys privacy. FW respects GP and his wife enough to let him be the coach, and mentor players, and that's about it that he is *required* to do.

Patterson and Peterson will be mentioned on every major coaching vacancy until they a) take one of them, b) retire, c) die.

That was meeting where P asked the AD who was in charge the AD or the booster who flew them in ( the same guy who arranged the Newton. payment then got investigate for fraud by the FBI)

I wonder what the reaction was from the Auburn side of the table, and which one of them reacted.

I know that Auburn's Big Booster has had some business, legal, and political (one and the same in Alabama business and politics, really) setbacks in the last few years, but is he still the man in charge? If so, any head football coach stupid enough to work for Auburn is certainly not TCU material.

Nobody worries me. If I found my perfect job, in a place my family loves, in a city that worships me, with a postition and support structure that provides access to every goal I want to accomplish, with an employer who gives me full reign and pays me VERY well (and will match whoever)...

I have literally NO motivation to leave.

FWIW, watching the ESPN College Football Live show where they do a segment called The Experts. One of the topics discussed was coaching changes. They listed all of them and then did a kind of spin the wheel thing and then would discuss candidates for the school it landed on. Tennessee was one of those it landed on and GP was mentioned as a possibility (along with Jimbo Fisher and Gruden). One of the "experts" said "I can't see Gary Patterson leaving TCU". One of them mentioned he was also a candidate at Arkansas and along with GP they mentioned Gundy but said they can't see him leaving the Pokes either. They said that job is going to have to be filled by a Texas guy and one of them said Art Briles is a possibility for the Hogs.

I'm pretty convinced that GP isn't going anywhere but I do suffer fleeting anxiety from time to time worrying about it so every time I hear something like that I feel a bit better.

I am surprised Briles isn't being looked into by Arky. Many of their fans with "sources" say that they think Briles isn't good enough for them. They all seem to want someone with either a national title or SEC history of several years.

The only thing UT can offer GP is more money, and I bet TCU would step up if necessary. GP might use it to get his assistants more. But he is already in a BCS conference, in the Big 12, positioned to win the Big 12 over the next few years and possibly make the BCS title game in the very near future. Not to mention all in a great city and on a better campus, stadium he basically built and in a new house to live in with his lovely FW wife.

Typical of them and their delusions of grandeur. What is their biggest accomplishment since they left the SWC back in the early 90's? I could google it but I'm too lazy right now and it says enough that I can't recall anything more than one 10 win season and top ten finish. What is it that makes them think they are so special?

TCU has accomplished more in the 22 years than Arkansas has since they left the SWC, much more.
