BALTIMORE -- The Baltimore Orioles have purchased the contract of right-hander Jake Arrieta from Triple-A Norfolk and designated reliever Alberto Castillo for assignment.Arrieta was to make his major league debut Thursday night as Baltimore's starting pitcher against the New York Yankees.
The 24-year-old was the Orioles' fifth-round pick in the 2007 amateur draft. He was 6-2 with a 1.85 ERA in 12 games with Norfolk this season.
Castillo was 1-0 with a 10.13 ERA in 14 games with Baltimore. The 34-year-old righty has bounced back and forth between Norfolk and the Orioles this season.
