I have it on good authority that Gary's replacement has already been chosen... TCU always looks for loyalty and trustworthiness in it's hiring process. So finding someone with ties to the TCU family, coupled with his lifelong desire to coach a winning program and his wife's oft quoted wish to call Ft. Worth home "forever" will only lead to one place. St. James retirement home for wayward coaches...yes, Dennis Franchionne will come out of the senior center to once again take command of the mighty Frogs and lead us down the mountain from the heights that Gary achieved. .....Seriously, Gary will retire after having one head coaching position for his entire career...He will forever be the head Frog...he IS TCU football... his name will forever be reverred and Stadium Drive will have been renamed Gary Patterson Way.... He will hand pick his successor and I'd be shocked it if isn't someone from his staff ..someone he knows will continue the tradition HE built.
Gary knows it's far preferrable to be a legend at TCU than be known as a coach who jumps job to job chasing higher
paydays and the national attention that he currently enjoys thanks to the tireless job he and his staff have accomplised here in Frog-land !

See, for example, Death Valley.

Having been there for a night game which was also an SEC conference game, I can absolutely state the atmosphere was ridiculous. Electric. Intimidating.

The only place I've ever felt physically unsafe other than The Rock in 2003 wearing purple.

This is probably intended as, at least somewhat, tongue in cheek. But it absolutely captures 100% of my hopes and desires on the subject. I award you a "like" for this thought.

So if all goes well and our wish comes true it's just way......way....way too soon to be giving it any thought.

But.......to extend the wish list by one more item, here's what I'd like to see happen. Andy Dalton retires from the NFL after his fifth season as a five time pro bowler and comes back to TCU as QB coach. Three years in that position and he's promoted to Offensive Coordinator. Three years as Offensive Coordinator and he's promoted to Assistant Head Coach and Official Heir Apparant to the Head Coaching position. Then.....in the fullness of his own time.....Gary ascends to the position of Head Coach Emeritus and Special Counsel to the Head Coach and Andy takes over full time as Head Coach of the TCU Horned Frogs....and names Colin Jones the New Co-Defensive Coordinator along with Tank Carter.

The foregoing paragraph is not intended tongue in cheek and is my actual wish.

Might have a little glitch in the plan but I like the general sentiment.

Could we get a Cincinnati guy, or a big OC name from a Florida or Oregon, would we hire from a smaller school in Texas? Just curious to see what direciton you guys think we would go if we had to now.

Kind of mine, too, but I was thinking we might lure JT into coaching as DC--few have grasped the defense as well.

As to size of stadium and game day atmosphere, when 50,309 of us packed the old ACS for the Utah game, and ESPN had honored us with our first appearance on campus, I found THAT experience to be topnotch.

Lets see how many more we can pack in for UT in 2013, and duplicate the Utah experience in every way.

Second point, Autzen (at a capacity of only 54,000 ) rates No. 1 for sheer noise and animation in many reporter's list of top football venues. Biggest, aint necessarily the best,a nd we are only 9k away from Oregon's stadium's capacity. The new enclosed and up-close remodling of ACS puts us archetectually close to Autzen's cozy confines. If I'mChip Kelly, I'm not looking to move just because someplace else's stadium holds 85k--to 100k.

So too, would we expect GP to be loath to leave behind a stucture where he has invested so much time, toil, and talent in achieving his personal legacy. He has the chance, with his on-field success coupled with doing it the right way, to become what we all thought Joe-Pa was.

Third, these Enormous State University type of HC berths have big baggage, delusional donors, rouge backers, media distractions, unwarranted expectations, and a whole host of negatives that GP is free of at our little school. Nonetheless, GP now enjoys extensive local ties with the community, a solid urban lacation with all its aminities. national recognition from the media and his peers, modest media demands on his personal time, full admin and AD backing, solid staff stability, top level facilities, donors whose proven largesse completely offsets our small size, and realistic fan expectations...and I have yet to mention he's smack in the center of a recruiting hotbed.
