After GP retires and TCU has to hire a new coach

I know, eventually they will, When Patterson retires. But following all these coaching searches has gotten me wondering what a TCU coaching search would be like. Theoretically, it's a job a lot of top coaches would want. TCU can pay a coach basically anything, we have all new facilities, recruiting in the heart of Texas HS football, and we are in the Big 12 now. But then you have the 50,000 seat stadium and Texas and OU and A&M to recruit against. And its been called a low-pressure job. Hmm. Just wonder if it would get all the national attention these SEC searches have gotten and I wonder if we could get a big-time name, or if that's even what we would want. Curious to see what y'all's thoughts are.

i don't even want to ever think about this happening... i hope to be old, fat, married with children, and extremely weathly before i have to start thinking about this scenario

Well, by the time GP retires, who knows if we are still in the B12, and our facilities will likely not be new anymore.

Now, if you are saying hypothetically if he retired today, I am not sure we get a HC from a 'top' program, but I think we could lure a top assistant or a HC from like Big 10, ACC, maybe PAC 12 or any other conference under those.

However, it could end up like a Trent Johnson thing too, where there is a great coach at a top, high-pressure program who isn't performing as well as he hopes that may come over.

Just my opinion of course, but a lot could change to where GP continues to build us and we land a few NCs and it really becomes a top program that any coach would want.

Just my opinion.

Was it Urban Myer (when he was still on sabbatical) who said GP and the TCU admin had already made this a destination --not a stepping stone -- coaching job?

You're making two really big assumptions here: A) that GMFP will retire and B) that GMFP is mortal.

Gotta say, not sure that I'm too worried about these.

Not sure if I would classify us as a stepping stone. One thing people tend to forget is that not many schools are as supportive as TCU is in terms of adminsitration support. There is a a big reason why Urban Meyer said this is a top 5 job- RECRUITING!!! We are in the best 200 square mile radius for recruiting in the country. Meyer understands how important that is to your success.

When GP retires in 2025 at age 65 with 4 NC rings, TCU will have its pick of coaches. No clue who it will be, but I can think of a Red-Headed Former Frog QB who will make a hell of a coach someday. He would have been our OC for 3 years and will be ready for the top job.

By the time he retires hopefully it could be someone like four-time SB champion Andy Dalton. If it's slightly earlier I'd be down with Randy Shannon.
