ACC officially votes to add Cal, Stanford, SMU

FSU and Clemson will never play in Dallas. Kinda funny how spare their home schedule will be the first couple years. By the time the home and homes cycle through the top of the conference will be long gone.
This... I'd be surprised if either team plays more than one game in Dallas before they bolt

Those are the only 2 schools in the ACC with a big enough fan base that cares enough to even travel to Dallas

BC, Pitt, Louisville, Virginia, Duke, Miami aren't going to have enough fans that care to fill Gerald Ford Stadiun

Yes the SMU fans can now say that they are our equals but instead they will claim that they are better than us for some perverse reasoning. It does not matter.

First we are getting the funds to make our program great and SMU will be getting donations to what?

Build a new stadium- that still has no parking.

Buy more players through the NIL because they are now Part of a Power 4 conference that few people and high schools players here know anything about?

What happens when after pouring all this money into the program and the needle does not move?

Actually I wish to thank SMU for demonstrating how rotten this system has become. Pay to play has never been so apparent or so depressingly perverse.
The SMU fans at my work say the only reason we have been successful is because we are in the Big 12 and they aren't, and now that SMU is in the ACC they will surpass us

I said... we accomplished more in our last 3 years in the WAC than SMU has in the last 3 decades

Ha, I mean congrats to y’all for doing what you had to do to give yourself a long-run chance. I think for SMU this is the best move you could make. It’s a Hail Mary, but it’s your only chance of not being left for dead forever, so why not do it if you can afford to do it.

But it’s hardly some flex where you come over here and revel in our lamentations. Cool, you literally bought your way in to a dying conference. Might work, might not. Good luck, but it doesn’t really affect TCU that much.
This. It’s a good move for SMU only because the alternative was worse. It’s a no lose deal, if the ACC dissolves at some point, they just go back to where they were. And if there is some major restructuring in college football, the seat they have now is a little closer to the front than it was.

Could potentially be some decent b-ball games in moody coliseum.

If I'm Free Shoes or Clemson, I'd be pretty furious that Minnesota and Nebraska are getting paid 3x what I am for whatever it was they attempted to do on national television last night. Because it wasn't football, or at least any form of it that has been played since 1920. I'm assuming the ACC is going to shunt the pro-rata increase money that SMU is 100% forgoing and CalFord are ~70% forgoing to try and keep Free Shoes and Clemson (maybe UNC and Miami) a little happier for a little while longer before they defect.

No lamentations; we're casually interested to see if SMU finally stops being terrible. Y'alls NIL program seems to finally indicate there is some interest among alums and donors. You know, what TCU's alums and donors realized in 1996.
The football wasn't good but the stadium was packed to the gills like it was some big-time matchup. THAT is what matters in the end because that = $.

How can the Alumni cover the NIL and all the travel expenses of all sports , and a new stadium ?
All it takes is one or a few mega-rich donors and they could fund it all. Easily.

Said it before, if just one of Sam Walton's heirs decided he/she wanted to make Arkansas the envy of all college sports programs and make Michigan or Ohio State look like Central Michigan or Toledo, they could fund it all themselves annually and it would barely dent their financial statement. Phil Knight has donated a hell of a lot of money to Oregon, almost $2B. He's still worth about $50B.

Tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars is a lot of money, unless you're worth $50B.

I guess I’ll bite, I’m not sure what you want us to say. In the past 30 years SMU as never finished in the top 25, never won their conference, and never gone to a NY6 bowl.

SMU has successfully bought their way into a power conference they don’t deserve to be in based upon actual on the field results. Congratulations. Props to SMU doing what is best for their program. A lot of programs would have just accepted their lot in life but SMU and their donors refuse to accept their lot and are willing to put their money up to better SMU’s position. So I have to respect that. Seriously.

However you coming on this board is like a kid with terrible grades going around bragging about the great college he was able to get into because his daddy made a large donation to the school. Are we supposed to be impressed?

Was I supposed to type something here?
Lamentations? We aren't crying, we're laughing at you! I mean, you literally groveled your way into a Conference that is already walking the plank, paying your own way to do so, to be a doormat for everyone else to get an easy Conference win.

Yes, you are in a P5 Conference now. As a rented mule.

I propose an official KFC mascot name change from SMU Ponies to the SMU Rented Mules. Perhaps an auto correct is in order.

Yeah, we don't deserve it, but we were also the only school to ever get the death penalty from the corrupt NCAA and had to wander in the wilderness for almost 40 years. In the end I guess it all evens out.

It may look as though we're "buying" our way in but it's a little more complex than that. Adding a new school brings a pro rata share for the T1 ESPN media deal and in-state carriage fees in Texas also add to the bottom line; like Rutgers, we won the geographic lottery. But even without any media revenue, we'll still make more than we would in the American from the ACC non-media revenue distributions (CFP, NCAAT credits, etc). So while we'll make less than our ACC peers, we're not starting at zero; we'll actually start at or ahead of where we've been money wise. And then when you factor in increased donor activation, ticket sales, exposure...it's a no-brainer.

But yes I had to come here and laugh because you guys have laughed at us for years for being in a crap conference.

I have come to revel in the lamentations of my enemies. Please do not disappoint me.
Your school just received a long-awaited bid from a P4 conference, and your play was to log on to your rival’s website to talk smack? How very lame indeed!

Just to be clear: we don’t care. We don’t give two My Little Pony apples. That’s why TCU “paused” the Iron Skillet series. It has become a drag on the schedule.

Go Frogs!
