It broke my heart when Caro's shut down their location on Bluebonnet Circle. As far as I know the only location is in in Rio Grande City.

Is there anyone locally who serves food similar the old Caro's still left around the Fort Worth area? Those puff chips and tacos were great.

Caro’s was great. I remember as a kid eating at the original (Fort Worth) location at Camp Bowie and Curzon (where Zeke’s is now I think). We eat occasionally at the old Pulido’s location on Pulido Street. Pulido’s was sold to the group that owns and operates West Side Cafe. I’m not saying the food is similar, but I have seen puffy tacos on the menu, haven’t tried them.

#1 Dona Maria, I recently tried and the “puffy” tacos were bad, yuck, though their mole may be the best I know.
#2 Taco A-Go-Go has good tacos but I have never seen a puffy taco there.
#10 Torchy’s, I have not seen a puffy taco there and probably would not recommend Torchy’s.

The rest of the restaurants I have not tried, but would not trust this list from Yelp for puffy tacos, as noted above.

Main reason for going to Torchy's is their ques-o. (Why can't I print that word without a hyphen?)

I started a "hole-in-the-wall" Tex Mex thread last year.. got lots of good referrals... One of which was Dos Molina's West of stockyards. Love that little place

I heard that San Antonio is pushing the puffy tacos now. Even without the "ouffy" thing, Carl's had a unique flavor.
unique and yummy. But not worth going th San Antonio. .
