247 Sports: Texas A&M quarterback Kenny Hill to transfer to TCU

Gigem247 has learned from multiple sources that Texas A&M sophomore quarterback Kenny Hill has been granted a release by Texas A&M and will transfer to TCU.

Hill led Southlake Carroll to a state title his junior season in high school and was one of the first prospects offered by new A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin and offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury in the Aggies' 2013 class. Hill led Carroll back to the state quarterfinals and was named the Gatorade Player of the Year as he compiled nearly 5,000 yards of total offense and 60 touchdowns rushing and receiving.

Hill was a backup to former Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel as a freshman and battled five star freshman Kyle Allen during the spring and summer of 2014 to see who would succeed him. Hill won the starting job and proceeded to throw for a school record 554 yards as the Aggies upset top ten South Carolina on the road. A&M began the season 5-0 and Hill was mentioned as a top contender for the Heisman Trophy. However, the Aggies lost three straight games in the middle of the season and Hill had seven turnovers in the losses which culminated in a 59-0 defeat to Alabama. ...

Hill was subsequently suspended for two games prior to the Louisiana Monroe game for violations of team rules which came on top of a suspension during spring practice for an off the field incident which resulted in an arrest.

I am still in the thanks but no thanks camp. We have the quarterbacks of our future, unless for some reason there is a lack of faith in them.

Maybe on the bright side this sounds like a decision influenced by 2 very successful offensive guys that are going to be around for while. anyway. Also, if I were Kenny I would plan of stopping the drinking. Some never do well with it, me included.

I am sure GP is on guard for guys who would be a detriment to the program after what it has been through. So I guess if he is OK with it, fine, but I don't see the need to risk it with what we already have on the team, and Sawyer and Mule are upstanding young men as well as talented QBs.

Yeah. No one wants a 5 star QB and incredible athlete. I'm really pissed Coach P didn't ask your guys opinion first.

In GP we trust.

The coaches have weighed everything and decided he is worth the risk, i do known he comes from a good family and being 30 mins from them should help him. The environment in college station, mainly the lack of structure and discipline from the coaching staff doesnt work for many 19 year olds and obviously didnt for kenny. GP and staff are on board, so am i

I agree with this. It makes me a bit nervous bc I'm extra sensitive after the last few years to troublemakers, but I trust GP to do what's best for the program and for the young men in it.

I also wonder if GP's approach with CP4 is part of the reason TCU was the preferred destination for Hill. I'm wondering if Hill's parents saw the opportunity being squandered by their son and thought GP was the one guy they wanted their son to play for.

Pretty sure GP has done his due diligence on Hill before accepting him as a new team member, especially after his experience with Pachall's issues.

Never underestimate Coach P. Watch him take Kenny Hill and make a LB or FS out of him. The kid has baggage but it is all well documented so coach knows what he is getting. These are two different people but Sam Carter was an outstanding hs QB and his future is looking pretty good. Could be interesting.........

Switching him to another position would, I expect, humble a Gatorade Player of the Year a good bit. Probably be good for him too

GP has a full year to evaluate this kid off the field. If he's going to screw up, he'll do it before GP puts him on the field. Low risk, high reward.

Two immediate impressions.....
1) GP is clearly OK with his makeup, so I guess I am too.
2) The staff must not be certain that our next QB is currently on campus (pure speculation on my part).

I've been thinking about your second point but glad you said it first

I'm going with there being a ZERO percent chance Hill transferred here to play another position. 3 months ago he was a Heisman candidate with an NFL future. Ain't happening.

I wonder if this in any way will help persuade Daylon Mack if he sees the flow of traffic heading from ATM to TCU?

Joeckel, Hill.....Mack!

These two guys have experience at ATM. Probably will be reaching out to Mack to offer their opinion.

I like it. We're not asking this kid to come in and be a leader, which is where he failed miserably down in Cultville. For the short term, we're asking him to just be a scout team QB.

If he does everything right over the next two years, matures, develops on and off the field, and earns the starting job down the road then I have no doubt he will be a totally different person at that time than he is right now.
