TCU's Max Duggan 'is a strong candidate' for the Heisman over USC's Caleb Williams, says Desmond Howard

Resumes for the 2022 Heisman Trophy will be complete after conference championship games this weekend, and USC quarterback Caleb Williams sits as the betting favorite entering the No. 4 Trojans' Pac-12 Championship Game clash with No. 11 Utah Friday in Las Vegas. Despite his stellar four-touchdown outing in USC's 38-27 victory over Notre Dame last week, ESPN's Desmond Howard says Williams has yet to fully assert himself as a clear favorite over TCU's Max Duggan.

"Caleb Williams is a guy that came to USC with a tremendous amount of hype because of what he did at Oklahoma," Howard said on The Rich Eisen Show. "He followed Lincoln Riley to USC, so people are familiar with the name, familiar with the style, and Riley has already had a couple of Heisman winners. You don't really have to do much as much to impress people."

Howard says Duggan has been every bit as good as Williams but isn't getting the recognition he deserves because he plays in a smaller market at TCU.

I don't disagree with everything he is saying, but USC was 4-8 last year and Williams does have better statistics. Hard to deny his case tbh. Although I don't like the guy or his coach so there's that too.
