Finebaum: Alabama eyeing TCU as backup if USC is out for Week 1

For the second time in a span of five seasons this year, Alabama football is slated to kick off the season with a marquee matchup against USC on Sept. 5 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. However, according to one prominent college football pundit, it's possible that Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide could be squaring off against an entirely different opponent as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus crisis when they head to North Texas.
ESPN radio host Paul Finebaum, during a Tuesday appearance on Get Up, said that Alabama has reportedly been in communication with TCU football about the Horned Frogs possibly filling in for USC in the neutral-site matchup should state or federal regulations prevent the Trojans from making the trek all the way from California to Texas. As for why Gary Patterson and Horned Frogs have been tabbed as a potential replacement, not only is TCU's campus just 18 miles away from AT&T Stadium, but TCU could face a similar predicament regarding its own current schedule, as the team is currently slated to head out west for a matchup at Cal in Week 1.
