Depleted Texas backcourt could be without Matt Coleman vs. TCU

AUSTIN, Texas — Just when it seemed like Texas couldn’t withstand any more injuries to perimeter players, Saturday’s 81-52 forgettable road loss to Iowa State has the Longhorns in dire straits heading into a return to the Erwin Center to face TCU on Wednesday (7 p.m., Longhorn Network). Head coach Shaka Smart said Monday that the injury sustained by guard Matt Coleman in the loss to the Cyclones is a heel injury and it’s far from certain the junior will be available when Texas (14-11, 4-8 Big 12) meets the Horned Frogs (14-11, 5-7) in a game where the Longhorns are looking to keep the season from completely collapsing ahead of next month’s Big 12 tournament in Kansas City.
“We're hopeful that he's going to be able to go on Wednesday night,” Smart said. “He will not practice today, but he's feeling better today than he did yesterday, which is a good sign.
“It's just a bruise,” he added. “We were a little bit worried coming home because he was in a lot of pain and he's a tough kid, but we're hopeful that he's going to be able to go on Wednesday.”
