247 Sports: Barber Stepped Up When Needed

Back in January, rumors starting circulating about true freshman receiver Taye Barber and how he had already started impressing those around TCU’s program. The former four-star athlete out of Cy-Springs was one of the Frogs’ top recruits for their 2018 class when he chose TCU over Clemson, Arizona and Arizona State among many others.

It didn’t take long for TCU head coach Gary Patterson to confirm the rumors about Barber; Patterson immediately spoke highly of the speedster very early in fall camp. To Patterson, Barber definitely went against the norm for young players, particularly wide receivers.

“Like all young receivers some of those guys weren’t playing so they pout; they think the world’s over. Once they learn more they start playing more,” Patterson said. “In Taye’s case, he’s not in that category; he’s taken the bull by the horns from the very beginning."
