I thought TCU had the top class in the Big 12 last year?
Haven't we been running 3rd behind TU & OU for years also when they were in the Big 12?
Yes. TCU had the top recruiting class in the B12 last year ranked # 25 plus or - 5. In the last literal last 12 months, other B12 teams have catapulted over TCU while the TCU DEI staff has been asleep at the wheel. Put some testosterone in the TCU organization recruiting apparatus. My view is that estrogen is phunking up the whole lot.

Mostly because we are behind with NIL money but also because Sonny & Co. aren't very good at recruiting. Yes its a long term trend that we all should be worried about.
According to Jamie Plunkett (who I trust), money is not the problem. We’re very much near the top in the conference. The issue is philosophy and how it’s allocated.

False. Money is definitely a problem: near the top means top half. Top half in Big12 is bottom of SEC and low in Big10.

Yes, I believe we were 2nd twice and 4th once in the last 3 years.
TCU has very good skills people.
The problem is the front lines.
In 2022 the lines were mostly GP’s seniors, but unfortunately, GP had some very bad recruiting classes the 2 prior years. Sonny also had a poor portal class in Dec. ‘22.
As a result TCU has had to rebuild the front lines from scratch. Dykes got some decent Group linemen in the portal to stabilize the lines, but the HS signees take a couple of years to develop.

Who is supposed to overspend on him? I doubt anyone would want to do that, that sounds like a bad deal.
I’m just saying, we have the money, but we’ve been spending a lot on skill players while relying on developing lower tier OL. And it just isn’t working. Getting proven transfer OL is the only thing that seems to have worked for us considering 3/5 of our starters were proven transfers. We have enough skill guys for the next few years, so our NIL efforts, I would hope, shift towards the priority and go away from the current philosophy that hasn’t worked for the last 3 years.

I just don't think you should overspend for anyone. Don't spend a bunch of money on a guy that really isn't that good. Seems to have worked for us? 3/5 of our starters were "proven" transfers yet everyone complains about how [ Finebaum ]ty our OL is?

I agree that we need to prioritize the OL and DL but I'm sure a lot of programs do, so it's not easy to just go get good players there. And we don't have enough skill players for the nest few years. We have enough this year. They will all be free agents again in a couple months. Isn't this fun?

There are only so many O-line that can play at this level. Just not that many guys big enough, talented enough, and smart enough. O-line requires smarter guys than D-line.
O-Line is #2 position behind QB for NIL. TCU needs 6 new O-line every year. At least 4 should be high school kids, because not every kid is going to work out.
Just because a kid is 6'6" 340 at 16 doesn't mean he is smart enough to do the job in college. For O-line, we need to get the smart and talented players. If a kid has a sub 20 ACT score, grab the 30 ACT kid that might be only 6'5 instead.
Good scouting is 1st priority. Second is good development. 3rd is retention. Support with the portal, not just grabbing guys.

I think under the right circumstances it’s okay. But only if you think that player is an absolute difference maker. And of course, what degree do you “overpay”. But yeah, talking about college football players like it’s a salary cap fantasy football league is not where I want college football…but here we are.
