2025 MLB Thread

It has to be said, CY has constructed a roster that is straight ass and Boche overmanages the lineup every night. And over the weekend, after 2 straight extra innings games there were no bullpen moves made despite at least 3 guys unavailable on Sunday. Jon Daniels was a master at using player options and never would have let that happen.

I’m so tired of watching the hapless hitters swing and miss. But that’s been the trend in baseball for years. I miss the Tony Gwynn’s and Michael Young’s.

Top Red Sox Pitching Prospect Payton Tolle Dominates in Double-A Debut

38m ago

Payton Tolle, a top Red Sox pitching prospect, has made a strong impression since being promoted to Double-A Portland from High-A Greenville. Currently at 3.46 ERA and 88 strikeouts in 54.2 innings, Tolle's recent debut saw him strike out nine batters while allowing only one run in five innings. Following his performance, Baseball America ranked him 49th among MLB prospects, a significant jump from his previous position. Tolle's fastball now sits between 94-96 mph, and he has developed a diverse pitch arsenal, enhancing his potential as a future major leaguer.

By the Numbers

  • Tolle has a 3.46 ERA and 88 strikeouts over 54.2 innings combined in High-A and Double-A.
  • He recorded nine strikeouts in his first Double-A start with only one earned run allowed.
State of Play

  • Tolle is the highest drafted Red Sox pitcher since 2017 and is leading a new wave of pitching talent.
  • Other promising pitchers in the Red Sox system include Connelly Early, with a 1.94 ERA in Double-A.
What's Next

As Tolle settles into Double-A, anticipation grows for his continued development. His performance may soon position him as the Red Sox's top prospect, especially after other ranked players graduate. With ongoing enhancements to his pitch selection, he could be a key contributor to the team's future success.

Bottom Line

Payton Tolle's rapid ascent in the Red Sox farm system highlights the organization's commitment to developing a strong pitching pipeline. His impressive debut in Double-A signals both his talent and the potential impact he may have in the majors in the near future.

What the hell was Boone thinking? Look at the bats he could have used but didn't. He deserved to lose.

The names had to be submitted before the game and there was a strong possibility that those guys showered and left after they came out of the game. As this is a regular occurrence both managers submitted names that they knew would be playing at the end of the game.

They sure didn't make that clear during the game. Even the tweet I posted doesn't help. Jeff Passan should know that's how the decision making worked since he covers MLB. Why post that tweet and add to the second guessing of Boone?

This was about Athletics‘ star rookie, Nick Kurtz, not the Astros; it was almost worth the loss just to watch the kid hit.

Crazy stats - "Forget the cycle that was on his mind. Kurtz went out and did something even rarer in a 15-3 blowout win over the Astros. Going a perfect 6-for-6 with four home runs, Kurtz became the first A’s player in franchise history with a four-homer game, the first rookie in MLB history with a four-homer game, and the 20th player overall."

He also tied MLB record for total bases.

The unrecognizable Stros, except for their winning, 60-45. Lost Tucker and Bregman during the offseason and have lately been losing more than winning, but swept the Dbacks on Wednesday in Arizona with this lineup of castoffs and rookie bench players.

Trammell, Caratini, Walker, Diaz, Matthews, Dubon, Hummel, McCormick and Whitcomb. Brandon Walter was on the mound and now is on the Injured List (IL) with elbow inflammation.

Only two players listed there started on opening day. Five of the nine opening day fielders are on the IL and three of five opening day starting pitchers.

Stros have 18 players on the IL, the most in MLB, but somehow they keep winning and I keep waiting for a long losing streak. Only .500 since the halfway mark and recently losing more than winning so maybe this is that downturn; get some players back, damn it.
