Kelly lost 3 of his last 4 games (@Ole Miss and Vandy and home to TAMU.) All 3 losses were to Top 10 ranked teams. I know LSU expects to win more. But that's pretty brutal. That second half vs. Aggies was killer. In SEC play, LSU beat Florida and So. Carolina by 10 points each at home. They kicked off the year with the 17-10 win at Clemson. High pay, high expectations.

His continued problems with offensive line and severe lack of running game despite very good RB’s finally reared it’s head. Nussmeir has had some very undisclosed medical issue that prevents him from throwing ball downfield, (0 completions of 40 yards or more even with very fast WR’s) Offensive play calling is non-existant, Sloan was a bad promotion on the first day. Only thing he had to do with Jaden Daniels play was to watch it unfold. Lastly, the ticket price increase for 2026 (who has been through that recently), to aid an athletic budget that supposedly was in red last year has been a PR flop with Brian Kelly. Anyone watch him at his media events?

When you stack that many top programs in one conference, there are going to be more “losers” than winners, especially when you have so many with unrealistic expectations.

This is going to be the norm until SEC fans realize what they created. 10-2 and 9-3 are now “good” seasons, they just don’t know it, yet.

I don’t follow LSU but it sounds like Nussmeir should not be playing if he can’t throw downfield. Don’t know what LSU has behind him.

Watching the Aggies celebrating the way they did in DV was too much.

I think Kelly’s profane berating of players and coaches combined with results did him in. They are going to pay a lot of money to move him out but they apparently decided it is worth it.
I don’t know. They simply may not have been able to understand him. He didn’t work hard enough on the accent.

That’s a really interesting point, although LSU’s conference losses have all been to longtime SEC foes. I mean, they’ve been passed up by Vandy.

Agreed. Also, these coach firings after three years or less are going to hurt your program, as the chances of landing one of the rare whisperers is unlikely. Generally, these guys will need five years. Let a proficient coach thrash around for several years at 8-4 or 9-3 and you increase your chances of putting together a magical class, maybe with a stud QB, in a cohesive system. It gives you the best chance to build something long-term on the rare 11-1 season. Gotta let the numbers work for you.

I agree. In a way, Alabama fits that bill. DeBoer went 9-4 in his first year, and I remember fans freaking out and saying he would never last. They then lost to FSU to start this season, and that started the "hot seat" talk again. Only ONE game into the season! Since then, they have not lost a game and are tied for 1st in the SEC. They have beaten Tenn, Vandy, Georgia, and Missouri - all ranked opponents. Ironically, they have to play LSU (in Bama) next. Following Nick Saban is a high bar - even though his last years were not what they expected from him either (two losses!! lol). So crazy.

Seems that chances are pretty good they will reach the playoffs, assuming they win out. Good thing they didn't can that coach after a year.

I'm not sure that's true anymore in the portal era.

There are going to be 3 and 4 loss SEC teams that miss the playoffs that would be very competitive in playoff games against non-SEC teams.

I know, I'm a contrarian, but I think the disparity is that big between the SEC and everyone else. Take Mississippi State....I honestly think they are a decent football team who would be pretty competitive in another conference. They definitely aren't "bad", but they are 0-4 in the league now, and went 0-8 last year. Who knows, they might find a way to win a couple this year but there's a decent chance they go 0-8 again, they'll be underdogs in their last four and big dogs in three of them.

There's just no way a team from any other league goes 0-16 or 1-15 over a 2 year stretch and be anything but a very bad team. Hasn't always been THIS much of a disparity, but the bottom half of the SEC is so much better than that of other leagues it's not even close.

They had Texas beat but couldn't make 1 yard on 3rd down and then gave up a punt return in the last minute plus to go to OT and then they lost.
