2023 Recruiting Thread

Man, that was quick. I had noticed this afternoon that this guy had received a CB to the Frogs and found out that he had just de-committed from Baylor day before yesterday. At the time he was like their third highest-ranked recruit. I've placed a link below to an article the Baylor recruiting guru had written about this guy, analyzing him as a recruit.

Javeon Wilcox

thanks for the link. thought this part is the key and aside from length in their secondary players this is the common link:

"In today’s college football world of multiple formations, defensive coordinators need defenders that adjust no matter the offensive skill package and formation they line up in. That’s where Wilcox’s value increases.

He will be capable of playing a traditional strong safety role that comes down into the box, and he’s also a likely candidate to be a part of the specialist packages – nickel and dime – that college defenses routinely operate in the modern era. He can also do that at the hybrid linebacker-safety position in the slot."

It is a bit of an "arms race" in the passing game now. The wide receivers have always been the more athletic types with speed but now they also are getting larger. DB now must keep pace in that they need to be faster, more athletic and bigger. Wilcox fits the bill.

Another thing about taller DB’s that it forces the QB to be more accurate with his throws and that usually means less steam on the ball as it arrives. As Jefffrog notes this gives an edge to the defense unlike in the past. The new defense will take some time to develop in there new system but you can do anything with the right talent.

Now if we only had hired a specialty teams head coach just think what we would have! Right Eight?

frogs add kylan salter and kam franklin to this class and it has been a very, very productive weekend

for those who don't know kam franklin here is some video from last year

I see that Kam Franklin is our second "flip" in as many days, this time from Oklahoma State! Taking recruits from the two "conference leaders" from last year is making a very nice statement (TCU is lit!)! It also blunts their perceived momentum from the "great seasons" they had.

would be, haven't heard or seen anything specifically saying he is switching to the good guys as just rumors and the proverbial social media smoke signals, but agree with you

his video reminds me of marcel brooks highlights and i think a very good place to start to fortify the back end of this defense would be that group plus chamber and lewis from last year and no one seems to remember that frogs landed a pretty decent safety prospect from garland last year as well.

Oh! I was going by your post above that mentioned Salter and Franklin. I'll just leave my comment up and later on, I'll just pretend that I was prescient! ;)

all good, i am just wishing out loud as you drop those two into the defensive recruits that have been brought in the last 8 months or so and this defense strangely starts to look like the old gary patterson defenses that were long, athletic, could run, and would hit.

have a running spreadsheet of the current roster and recruits split out and i think people are going to be very, very surprised how fast sonny is going to turn the roster over without running a number of kids off

big upcoming year for guys like hayes, bolticoff, barlow, and sorrells

p.s if i am really wishing out loud throw max carroll in that mix and then the frogs can concentrate on an elite corner and the offensive side of the ball (i.e. the line especially) and holding the class together

I just checked and there are now two CB's from the 247 boys for Franklin flipping to the Frogs, so I'm feeling more "prescienty" by the minute!

is one clark? if so very good chance it is happening as he like to keep the hit percentage fairly high on the crystal balls which isn't a bad thing
