Frogs on the court presently against Ag. Enters match 1-3 with two straight sets losses to Top 5 teams and split with a solid Coastal Carolina squad (3-1) and a meh Memphis team (1-3).

Williams playing a ton of players (including the rookies) so far to see what he’s got.

And Frogs take Set 1 from Ag at 19. C Bram… has moved from DS/Lib to OH which is an interesting transition for a 5’ 9” athlete but she’s got hops and some savvy so might work out. Frogs look like they want to play faster so first touch is even more critical.

Ag takes Set 2 at 21. Frogs serving was really bad (Ag’s was also bad). And Frogs getting hurt by one Ag hitter who already has 12 kills in 2 sets. Adams has 11 for the Frogs. Must establish dominance in the middle and start digging more consistently.

Frogs missing Nichols and until Sustala subbed in the first touches were bad to terrible. And…Frogs still have one horrid rotation but that’s better than the two Frogs had last year. Fix the reception issue and this is a good team. But that’s a massive issue to fix.

Frogs drop 3rd set at 17. Back row play terminal.

Frogs lose Set 4 at 23 after leading 23-22

Frogs led 23-20 before WCU ran off 5 straight to take Set 1. Frog VB twitter account didn’t help much after posting this:

Coach W playing 9 players in Set 1 and none were C Bram. Sustala got her first start to try and shore up that back row. Still got out-dug, out-hit, and committed more service errors.

Frogs win Set 2 at 16. Got M Myers going in that set. Still no C Bram. I believe that score is closer to the way it “should be”. Was thinking Frogs 4-6 points better. If Frogs had closed out from 23-20 we’d be looking at a possible sweep.

Frogs win S4 at 22 and the match at 3-1. Pretty apparent that Coach W is assessing players in situations. But when it came down to the end they set Adams who delivered the final three points. Next up is Indiana. IU got destroyed by SMU down in a Corpus tourney (19,19,19). SMU is a solid, well-coached squad.

Headed to a 5th set against Indiana at the Raleigh Tournament. Won first two sets. Lost 3/4. Haven’t been able to follow.

No C Bram today or yesterday. Assuming illness or something similar. Hope it’s not long term

Frogs win Set 5 15-13 and take the match 3-2. Gotta think this type of match will help this program. No Manyang today but M Cole played and Frogs won the pivotal points with J Adams rotated out IF I’m interpreting the statcast sub patterns correctly. Frogs fell behind by 3 points in the 5th on a few occasions but came back to grab the W.

Next up will be NCSU. While enduring a five setter is not ideal, Frogs have a decent chance of winning this tournament. IU dropped three sets to the Pack but two of those sets were at 23.

This is big in terms of belief/culture. Frogs were 1-6 in fifth sets last season. Had they been 6-1, they would have been a .500 team.

Also meaningful is getting a win outside of Fort Worth (last season 0-10 road/neutral). They've now won twice on a neutral court...let's see how they do in a true road environment vs. NCSU.

And Western Carolina just swept NCSU 19-21-21. So the Frogs have the chance to be outright tournament champions with a W against the Pack. Selfishly I had hoped that NCSU would have been taken 5 sets, win or lose.

WCU finishes 1-2
IU finishes 1-2
NCSU presently 1-1
Frogs 2-0

Frogs drop the first set badly. (17) Middle of S3 Frogs down 18-3 in blocks. If true that’s an incredible stat.

Frogs lose 2nd set at 19. Not a competitive match to this point. Frogs hitting at .043 and Pack at .242. Frogs will likely lose 1000 out of 1000 matches when J Adams struggles to an attack percentage of -.267. But the cool thing about VB is that it’s back to 0-0.

And I think Coach W has played every available player in this match except M Cole.

Down 20-13 in S3. Adams didn’t enter the set until 18-13. Getting Gibson some good playing time and she’s hitting at .300. Glad Coach W put Adams back into the match to try and get her mojo back up. Highly unlikely to comeback from the deficit but Adams just had a kill and an assisted block so that should do some good for her psyche. She’s too talented to stay down

And Frogs drop the 3rd set at 19. Stat line will look awful for this match. Myers played well. It’s inevitable that the S will have to dig but generally they should not be the team leader in digs.

All in all — 2-1 is not a bad weekend at all for this squad. Lots of court time for many players. No Bram. No Nichols. No Riaola.

Frogs v Bama at TCU

Frogs blow a 22-18 lead and five set points before losing S1 35-33. Win or lose that set was somewhat immaterial as the whole thing was terribly disappointing. This team can compete well with decent first touches that get them into their system but it just isn’t happening consistently enough. Fittingly the set ended on a service ace that would have been out by 3’ but back row botched.

FWIW-Bama got blown out 3-0 by Louisiana earlier today

Frogs blow the doors off Bama in S2 at 14. That’s much closer to how these sets should go. Gibson brought some energy to the floor that set. Played better on the net and benefited from 10 points on attack errors.

Frogs win S3 at 23. Uninspiring volleyball with no rhythm and still got to 25. Hard to get into the match when the passing is sporadic. 4 service errors in that set.

Frogs win S4 at 16. Bama wore down and Frogs played well from 10 on to the end. Couple of freshmen starting to play well in Gibson and Silvester. Frogs now 4-5 with two to play before conference
