Not sure we’re beating decent teams, but progress.
Both Iowa State and WVU would qualify as decent teams. Iowa State just beat #13 Baylor 3-1. Last year we lose both matches in 4 IMO.

Coach W is doing things positionally and personnel-wise to put the Frogs in better schemes to compete. Having Zoe Hall hit and block out of the middle instead of the pins was an interesting change. We probably don’t win last night without a sub at server as Maas ran off three points in a row and should have been four. That stuff doesn’t happen last year. Nope nope nope. It is progress.

Frogs in Austin to take on #1 UT at Gregory Gym. Won’t be able to watch tonight but hoping for a competitive match. On paper Frogs might match up well at one rotation but I’m hoping for some high level play to instill some confidence in the progress made to this point.

Burst of energy took Frogs out fast to a 7-3 lead but UT runs off 7 straight to go up 10-7. Only have a few more minutes to watch. Time to buck up and get resilient.

Frogs drop S1 at 20. In all honesty I have no idea how the Frogs got to 20. Talent-wise this looks more like a 25-15 or 16 type of differential. Frogs middles not even close to closing up the blocks at the pin and UT getting mostly free attacks. UT almost always in system and they have far more attack options. When they aren’t in system they have the hustle, height, and athleticism to score anyway. Frogs with 4 service errors in the set and it’s not like the serve is a major weapon for this squad. Had it at 21-19 but then UT ran away with it.

Texas wins S2 at 15
Texas wins S3 at 17. Match 3-0

Raiola hurt at 22-15 in S3. Looked like an ankle.

Should have mentioned that if you want to see the new court design at Scholl…watch one of these VB matches. IMO went from atrocious to nauseating.

But back to the Tech match. Still an massive number of service errors and don’t understand why Nichols and Williams account for so many critical ones. Those are highly experienced players. Once again Coach W subs Maas in late to serve and she’s freaking filthy from the service line.

But critical was the play of the middles in S4 both on the block and quick sets. Nalls is really surprising me as a 6 rotation player which I’ve been dubious of. And Adams hitting out of system was nice to see. Sustala is only getting better at libero. And all of this excitement without Bramschreiber who’s still out and Raiola limited. When you get the ball in system to Nalls at the net…sheesh…that could kill someone.

Frogs travel to Kansas for a match on Wednesday. KU is 2-3 in Big 12 play but has taken both UT and Baylor to 5th sets. Inexplicably lost to Iowa State yesterday 3-1 but partially explained by playing at Hilton which is not an easy place to get a W.

Kansas is good. Don’t know why they have a 5-1 road record and 4-0 neutral with a losing record in Lawrence but both UT and BU were obviously at home so there’s that. Frogs will have to play very well. Better than Saturday and perhaps their best match effort of the past three seasons to get out with a W.

KU is 12-5 overall and RV in the national poll.

After getting blitzed by Kansas in Lawrence earlier this week, the Frogs are in Manhattan to take on the Wildcats of KSU. KSU is 5-1 at home this season and admittedly better than the Frogs at most positions. Would love to see the Frogs steal a W in Kansas but they'll have to come from behind to do it as they've lose the first set and are behind in the 2nd set.

Frogs getting run out of the gym in S2. Lose at 19. Can't see a single element of this match where the Frogs are executing even or better than the Cats. A little disappointed in this effort honestly. But only lost two sets. Still have a chance. Would be a terrible road trip to not get a single set.

Frogs destroy Cats in S3 at 16. And just got royally screwed by the 2nd on a review that lasted four minutes and overturned a court call. Frogs were up and pulling away and now tied at 16.

Almost unbelievable but the Frogs kick the [ Finebaum ] out of KSU in the 5th 15-5 and take the match 3-2. A match they were getting blown away in through S2. With the exception of that upset of UT a few years ago, this might be the most impressive W in recent memory. Helped by suddenly poor play by KSU, the Frogs poured out multiple cans of whoop arse to get the road win and move to 4-2 in conference and 9-9 overall

Seems like we’ve hired the right coach. ADJD doing work.
