2020 Dalton Watch

One thing is for sure, Andy is decent but he is not the player Dak is at this stage of his career. I hope he can turn things around going forward so maybe he gets a future chance to start.
Not sure about that. Dak got a whole lot of his numbers this year while down by 20+ just like Dalton is right now on this game.

I think Prescott is probably better due to the mobility but the numbers the last couple years have been pretty empty playing from big deficits a lot of the time.

Dalton looks pretty bad. The rest of Cowboys have been equally awful, but he’s made the mistakes veterans shouldn’t make. Didn’t check down on 3rd and long earlier, didn’t check out of an obvious failed play, and now the INT.

It sucks when both of your teams have an offensive line that are as solid as a [ Finebaum ] on a Sunday morning.

Edit: really? [ Finebaum ] is filtered ?
Edit 2: Rhymes with nerd. Interesting.

He could’ve easily thrown 5 picks tonight. At least 2 went straight through defenders’ hands and another 1 or 2 were deflections that would’ve been great plays for INTs.

The entire team sucks tonight and Andy is included in that.

He carved about as good a career as he could have hoped for given his ability, especially financially. Damn good for him. But all those people saying he’s been stuck in bad situations, SMH. If he was about anywhere but Cincy. there is no way he starts for 10 years and makes the $ he’s made.

He missed a throw earlier down the field and yes he had that last INT which was a great play by the safety. He obviously hasn't been great but to say that he's been bad would be an exaggeration. He had a great throw for a TD at the end of the 1st half that was a flat drop and his 1st INT was a clear illegal contact or PI that wasn't called or his stats would look a little better.

Then of course there is the disaster of Zeke in the 1st half.

I think we have to accept what Dalton is, a very mediocre starter at the NFL level, at best. If you put him on a bad team, he’s going to be very bad. Yes the Cowboys have been a dumpster fire tonight, but there is a very obvious and decisive difference between Dak Prescott and Andy Dalton.

I know the Cowboys were only 1-3 under Dak this season, but Dak threw for more yards in those first four games than any quarterback has ever thrown for in the first four games in the history of the NFL. Dalton clearly isn’t going to be capable of that type of production in this same offense.

This is mostly accurate. He's been a lower level starter but has made a damn fine career out of his abilities. I didn't think he'd be a 10 year starter coming out of TCU.

I just don't think this particular game has been that bad for him. All kinds of dysfunctionality showing itself for the Cowboys that has nothing to do with Andy. This is a team with only 2 wins against winless teams before Andy took over so they have plenty of issues.

The Dak numbers are just so incredibly exaggerated and empty. This is a team that was constantly down by 3 or 4 TD's in the 2nd half. Then Dak throws it 58 times and puts up bunches of garbage yards.

Some obvious flaws in this viewpoint...

1) Without those "garbage yards" the Cowboys wouldn't have come back to win the 2 games they did

2) Why haven't the Cowboys been able to put up garbage yards tonight? Do you think Andy believes in the integrity of stats earned in close games and just doesn't feel like trying to do the same? Or are the Cardinals the second coming of the 85 Bears?

The gap between Andy and Dak is insanely big and won't be getting smaller.

The most likely scenario is Dallas signs Dak to a ridiculous contract and they continue to be mired in mediocrity. Dak is a decent QB but nowhere near Top 5 in the league. That he might end up being the highest paid player in the league is so Cowboys.

[ Finebaum ] flows downhill and it starts with Jerry of course.

Probably because they're not playing a terrible terrible horrible team tonight.

The idea that there is an insanely big gap between Dak and just about any starting level NFL QB is ridiculous. You can defend the empty stats all you want but the fact is through the first 5 weeks Dallas was 24th in the league in 1st half offense with Prescott as the QB. It's obviously not all on him just as tonight's game isn't all on Andy but those 20 and 30 point 2nd half deficits came with him at the helm.
