Brutal news for the Dodgers.

They entered the season with a high payroll ($187m) and even higher expectations, but currently sit in 4th place in the NL West at 12-16.

Too early to panic, but you wonder if they make a move.

Obviously Manny Machado's name has come up. Orioles are 8-20, and aren't realistically going to challenge the Red Sox or Yankees AL East dominance at any time this season, so maybe they cash out some of their pieces and get the rebuild going.

The longer the Orioles hold on to him, the less they'll get in return.

Dodgers have the prospects to get a deal done, if they want to part with them for a rental like Machado...but there's a big free agent offseason coming (as well as Kershaw's potential opt out at the end of the seasno) and they've made it a point to get under the luxury tax.

Matt Carpenter hit his 100th career Home Run last night.

The early season has been a struggle for him, but he broke out of it in a big way, going 2 for 4 with 2B and a big HR.

Hopefully this gets him going....

Here's some recent numbers backing up the notion he's been unlucky....his babip is now a very low .190, his lowest since 2011, and suggests he's due for a bounce back....
