2013 Recruiting: So who is left and where are we?

FeistyFrog

Sir FeistyFrog
2 big weekends just completed and though no commits there were a lot of positives.

Scratched off the lists:

Gaius Vaenuku-Utes
Quincy Adeboyejo - Ol Miss
Rami Hammad-UT
Damarius Randall-AZSt
D J Dean - Arkie

Primary targets:

Duke Riley LB: seemed to make a surprising report scratching Tulane and saying it is between LSU & TCU.
Joshua Outlaw OL: had a good visit with the Sooners and visiting Mizzery today, still will visit Tech and announce on signing day. Not sure who leads as he seems to say just what each reporter wants to hear but think TCU slight edge.
Cydney Calvin DB: Planning to announce this week between TCU, Wake & New Mex. Looks to be TCU though Wake close.
DeMarquis Polite-Bray WR: Probably TCU with Tenn a possibility.
Andrew Billings OL/DL: most likely UT with TCU & Baylor in it.
Daeshon Hall DE: Aggies think he is there's, so do the Huskies. Would love to see TCU steal this one.

Anyone else?

I think Jermaine Antoine is still a possibility, he's committed to University of North Texas but I think a TCU offer changes that. I think Tech is a bigger threat than Tenn for Polite-Bray - he and Outlaw have talked about playing together and Tech is bringing in them and 2 more of their MLK teammates in next week. Was happy to hear that Riley eliminated Tulane and Ole Miss, I think his heart is telling him LSU and his head is telling him that his style of play the opportunity for early playing time is better at TCU.

There will be a signing day surprise, there always is.

I think we get Calvin, Riley, Outlaw, and Polite-Bray. My guess is we steal KJ Smith after Calvin and Texada put on the full court press. Hall is interesting to me, I think he loves Coach Jennings and saw what Fields did last year. I think we have a very good chance at stealing him.

The GA kids are interesting. All 4 might commit to Tech, but my guess is they won't. Remember they can come play with Jordan Moore here as well if they want to play with MLK kids

I'd like to see us add another DE and LB in this class, but I guess all of the best recruits in those areas are pretty much spoken for.

What about signing day surprises? Does TCU typically have some guys who are way under the radar/not highly rated come in to fill the gap in our scholarships?

Derrick Kindred and Aviante Collins were those guys last year. Kindred came completely out of nowhere from a fan perspective, Collins had been on fans' radars for a while but was a bit of a surprise. Terrell Lathan came on an official in January, then committed to La Tech for a week or two, then changed his mind on Signing Day. I think we could see some similar things this year.

I'd prefer the following in this order:
  1. Billings
  2. Riley
  3. Outlaw
  4. Hall
  5. Calvin
Still hopeful we might have a shot at Ed Williams the LB, Kaleb Blanchard, or Carlos Smith. I dont know anything about Moore but his size is intriguing. I still like JaBraylin Thomas and Carlton Perkins but I don't think our staff has shown any interest.

I feel the most positive about getting Calvin and Riley with the others as semi longshots.

Gary Patterson is flying to New Orleans this week to have an in home with Duke Riley. Riley seems smart enough to see his potential at TCU and smart enough to see that he'll just provide depth at LSU for a great while.

We seem to be just one of the many schools that Joshua Outlaw & Polite-Bray are considering - honestly don't see TCU as anything more than just one of a bunch of schools they are considering.

Cyd Calvin should commit to TCU now. I guess if he wanted to go see a different part of the country, he could go to Wake Forrest.

There is a poster on Baylorfans that says that Andrew Billings has eliminated Baylor and is down to TCU / Texas. It seems that there was some drama between one of Billings teammates (Adrian Norwood) and Baylor and now Billings is turned off on Baylor. In any event, he seems like a big time Longhorn lean and a longshot for TCU.

Also have a good feeling about Daeshon Hall as he is giving TCU a fair hearing and I think that he is intregued at being the next Devonte Fields at TCU.

If LSU continues to keep Duke Riley warm, they may be 1 academic casualty away from offering him.

It would be great to get Duke, but a shame to fill a class with commits to the point that other guys we might want would give up on a TCU offer, and then have Duke flip at the very last moment.

Re: D Hall - Don't the Aggies pretty much think all the recruits are theirs? Although I doubt he will pick TCU I wouldn't put too much weight on what Aggie fans think.

I'll throw a couple of names out there as dark horses:
-Timothy Coleman, DE from Aurora Colorado -currently commited to Colorado - Frogs were very high on him but had other DL in front of him. Now that Veikunu is out of the picture, he may be the next man up.
-Anthony Wallace - Linebacker Transfer from Oregon. He was a national recruit two years ago and probably should have picked TCU then. Probably a bit overrated coming out of highschool as he never seemed to move up the depth chart at Oregon. TCU seems like a good fit for him.
-Maurice Porter - O-Tackle from Missouri City - Current Tech Commit but one of those guys that seemed to be waiting for TCU offer that never came.

It's going to be really hard to beat Texas for Billings, Oklahoma for Outlaw and LSU for Riley. We need linemen.

I see your point on Billings, but we have beaten OU pretty regularly over the past few years. Fields, Carter, Roberts, McFarland. They beat us this year for Thomas, Quincy Russell, and Austin Bennett. We haven't gone head to head much this year. I sure hope Riley sees the opportunity here, I think he is a great player, but LSU is only offering a greyshirt and supposedly Louisiana is loaded in '14.

Wallace strikes me as another Skyline overhype. People flock to that school, but have any of their kids panned out as expected? I guarantee there are 4 or 5 guys we don't even know about, that the coaches are working on.

Yep, he was overhyped out of high school. And you are right about the 4 or 5 guys that we don't know about.
