Schobel Bros, LT, Curtis Fuller and others. A blast from the past on a slow day. Would love t see this game again too.

The game now known as the GoDaddy.com Bowl started as the Mobile Alabama Bowl on Dec. 22, 1999. On his way to NFL stardom, LaDainian Tomlinson ran for 124 yards and two touchdowns to lead TCU to a 28-14 victory over No. 20 East Carolina at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in the inaugural game.

But it was the Horned Frogs' defense that made the difference. East Carolina (9-3) came into the game as a six-point favorite, averaging 406 yards per game, including 170 on the ground. But against TCU, ECU wound up with minus-16 rushing yards, and future NFL quarterback David Garrard couldn't pass the Pirates past the Frogs,

Don't remember anyone complaining about the venue, date or time of game, location, opponent ect. My how some have gotten spoiled with our success.

Remember it fondly. I was 13 and we stayed the whole game. Was about 20 degress if I remember correctly. Still got the poster on my wall. David Garrard next to LT.

The biggest hit I have ever witnessed was on the backup qb for ecu who rolled out of the pocket and was absolutely blasted by a TCU lb into this century.

Still have this game on a VHS tape in my house--need to take all those VHS TCU games and convert them to a new format soon.

LT was a junior.

One of the sponsors for the Bowl Game was a Pool Hall.

They had a bar set up underneath the stadium seats that served a full bar. I stood in line with Chad Bayer's father next to an Alabama native who was covered in deer blood.

Great time for TCU fans.

Yes, we are all spoiled. We are begining to behave and think like the "BC$" fans we used to make fun of and beat on a regular basis.

I hope our fan base continues to grow and support the Frogs in all sports.

Remeber that large *ss shopping cart....that was a great game with a side of Beau Rivage Casino afterwards!

Froglaw, I remember walking to my seats with a flask of whiskey in my boot and seeing that bar set up. You want to talk about happy.

The party atmosphere in the Beau Rivage Casino after the game was electric, and fun. "How 'bot them Horned Frogs!" was shouted from the tables after winning a good hand.

As I recall, it was last minute intervention that allowed the band to travel/attend/perform at that game. I'm not a hater - but some things haven't changed.

My last game with the band was the Sun Bowl the year before, but I remember the discussion in the band office prior to the Mobile Game about the possibility they weren't going to be able to swing the trip on their budget. If I remember correctly I believe a donor came through at the last minute to foot the bill.

Somehow, ecto and I wound up staying in "downtown" Mobile, at East Carolina's official hotel - The Admiral Semmes.

Everyone was dressed in purple, so we didn't draw a great deal of attention, but as we were about to ride up to our room after the game, a voice around the corner yelled, "Hold the elevator!"

A guy jumped in, and it took him a few seconds to realize we were not ECU fans, but he finally smiled and said, "Your boys came to play!"

The restaurant went exceedingly quiet when we walked in for breakfast the morning, as well.

Was a Freshman then.

Good times.

Just a short 2 hour drive roughly from the general area I was at the time when I was home during Christmas break and where I am presently again.

The only thing I complained about at that game was the cold. Man was it freezing! Mobile is such a humid climate, it made the cold feel much sharper.

However, we stayed about 45 minutes away at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi, where Mrs. Deep got to put in her time in the casino.

My recollection that Mobile Bowl I (1999) was fairly temperate. Sweat shirt weather, no gloves, etc. East Carolina W 28-14

Mobile Bowl II (2000) was the COLD one. Ski jacket, blanket. Sou Miss L 21-28. Remembering that our punting was AWFUL and gave USM great field position and two tries to beat us in the end, which they did.

The Beau Rivage was full of ECU fans in '99, Not many SouMiss types there in 2000 since it was a drive in game for most of their fan base.

The Beau Rivage is the secret to attending any Mobile Bowl game....Mobile in the Winter is not a big deal.
