"Can TCU Succeed in a Power Conference?"

The question everyone asked in 2010--and even in 2012 as we joined the Big 12. Given where things stand with conference alignment changes and an encroaching sense of being minimized by national media as a result, let's check in on the state of TCU Athletics.....

Gander over to Big12Ssports.com and click on "Standings" in the top right. You'll see TCU almost consistently at the top:
  • 2022 Baseball Standings: First Place--TCU [Big 12 Champ + Final Top 25 Ranking (19-23)]
  • 2022 Football Standings: First Place--TCU [Guaranteed Big 12 Champ or Runner-up + presently #4 in the country]
  • 2022 Men's Tennis Standings: First Place--TCU [ITA Indoor National Champ + Big 12 Champ + Final NCAA Ranking #3]
  • 2022 Soccer Standings: Second Place--TCU [Big 12 Regular Season & Tournament Runner Up, Currently ranked #21 and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16)
  • 2022 Volleyball Standings: Fourth Place--TCU
  • 2022 Women's Tennis Standings: Eighth Place--TCU
  • 2022-23 Equestrian Standings: First Place--TCU [Currently ranked #2]
  • 2022-23 Men's Basketball Standings: Everyone is 0-0 [Currently ranked #15 and played in this year’s NCAA 2nd Round]
  • 2022-23 Women's Basketball Standings: Likewise, too early.
So in the 9 of 10 conference-sponsored regular season standings [TCU doesn't participate in the 10th, softball], TCU is in 1st, 1st, 1st, 2nd, 4th, 8th, 1st, and TBD in both basketball programs (though 1 is ranked nationally in the top 15), and 6 of those 9 are ranked in the top 25 nationally.

Not included: TCU Beach Volleyball finished the 2022 season ranked #6 nationally. Rifle finished #2 nationally, and is presently ranked #6 early in this year's season. Cross country, track and field, swimming and diving, and the upcoming triathlon teams don't have "regular season" conference standings to share.

A damn fine program we have here. One that has in fact not only competed at a national level since joining the Power 5 in 2012 -- but actually become more competitive since doing so.

An excellent analysis. I was assured that TCU couldn't handle the weekly grind of being in the Big XII. Mainly by Tech people, a school that ironically has never won the Big XII conference in football.

Yeah, the week in, week out grind argument that you could only test by doing it. As it currently stands TCU has 7 wins in a row without a bye, so that argument is pretty much dead.

Donati is in over his head, and clearly doesn't know what he's doing. The evidence presented here is overwhelming. We should go hire an experienced Athletic Director from a major program, somebody with good name I.D. ... Who was that guy who was at Arkansas and the CFP a few years ago? He seemed solid.

We all figured basketball would struggle - but even in struggling they at least battled. And to be honest, football was a beast when joining for a few years (outside of I guess 2013) and didn't struggle until we were actually entrenched in the league. Now - every major sport is near the top of the standings except for women's basketball.

Was wondering after last Saturday which of the following would be the first to depart for another opportunity:
Riley
Gillespie
Donati

But a guy can hope they all stay.

I was under the impression that we had men and women's golf teams and, I believe, a club hockey team?
