Gary has done a ton for the program and the University. No denying it. He has a statue to prove it. But he is not bigger than the program or the University. No one person is. We do not 'owe' him one thing. We do not 'owe' him more time. We do not 'owe' him the ability to retire when he sees fit or to 'not get fired'. He is a TCU employee like everyone else. He has been paid multi, multi millions for his service. He is compensated in full.

His teams (for whatever reason, doesn't matter), no longer perform up to expectations and it is time for a change. His record proves it, and that is the only stat that matters. 3 winning conference records out of the last 9 (assuming that this year stays the course). As they say, Winning isn't everything, it is the ONLY thing.

Do you really think Bob Stoops 'retired voluntarily' from OU? Or behind closed doors was told 'we can do this two ways'.....c'mon. Bob was smart. He was slipping/getting older. The program was beginning to slip. So he retired a multi multi millionaire OU legend, left the place better than he found it...and is STILL paid handsomely for it through endorsements. He'll never pay for dinner/car/drink/movie ticket in Oklahoma as long as he lives.

It is very simple. If we have a true AD (which remains to be seen) - the decision won't really be up to JD, it will be up to Gary when posed with his two options. Change staff or retire/get fired. Staying the course, based on history, shows more and more losing seasons coming.

Love Gary...simply time for a change.

Just want to chime in to say that Stoops did voluntarily retire. He wasn’t pushed out. He had been thinking about it since his kids were going to college but the deciding factor was Lincoln. Other schools were trying to poach him for their next HC and Stoops wanted to leave the place in good hands so he pushed up his time table so that Riley could transition. My in-laws are both OU grads and very big donors to the Athletic program there and were invited to a special meeting before it went down. After year 2 as OC, everyone at OU was aware that Riley was going to be a HC and he was to talented to let him get out the door. We don’t have a guy like that in our staff. Unfortunately not even close

This is almost 100% accurate. The Mixon and Boren things were also contributing factors that made it even easier to step aside.

Yes, you certainly could! Ask baylor, U of H,
Florida State, Tech, ut for that matter...
To me it’s crazy to think that Baylor, who had arguably one of the greatest setbacks to a program you can have, managed to to enter the Big12 Championship game more recently and performed much better than we have. They could’ve beaten OU where we simply got blown out.. It’s crazy what a new coach can do for a program.
