Rice Thresher: Mike Collins named Owls' starting QB

Football head coach Mike Bloomgren has named his starting quarterback less than two weeks before their first game: Mike Collins, a graduate transfer from Texas Christian University, will be under center when the Owls take the field on Oct. 24.

Bloomgren said that Collins has excelled during fall practices, recalling that in one practice, none of Collins’ passes touched the ground.

I wish he wouldn't have left... guess he really wanted to be a starter. He probably would've gotten the nudge over the kstate transfer last year. Still glad Max is the starter though.

i can recall certain frog quarterbacks whose passes never touched the ground, they might not have actually been caught by a teammate but they didn't touch the groud

If so, it was a shrewd decision. A TCU Degree is very expensive. An MBA from Rice is very, very expensive. Even if he never took a snap, it was worth it.

If Mike hadn't been hurt during spring ball and much of fall camp last year, I think he would have started and had a pretty good season and we possibly could have redshirted Max.

robinson started game 1 and was quickly benched. Also benched in game 2 and unlikely to start again this year barring injury.

I don't think much could humble that kid... he probably still thinks he should be the starter somewhere. Too bad he's not still in highschool.

It's just such a terrible shame. He could have been great, all the tools were there.
