FORT WORTH STOCK SHOW CANCELED

Why are so many people complaining? A private organization is making a decision in their own best interests. I have never seen so many people complain about something that is not their own business.

People complaining that their lives have been stolen. Give me a break.

curious, not sure what the economic impact is from the ft worth rodeo, but the economic impact of the houston livestock and rodeo in harris county and surrounding communities is significant and it is not purely a matter of a private entity.

economically the hls&r draws just over 2M visitors each year over its three week run and unlike the astros who draw more over their home season a good number of those visitors are from outside houston

the estimate is that spending specific to the rodeo some $120M comes from visitors outside the the area and that doesn't include ancillary expenses such as lodging, food, spending at tack and feed stores, etc....

the economic impact of the rodeo is such that it made the difference in the vote for the new football stadium several years ago. houston and harris county was not going to approve the new stadium until the rodeo got behind the project and i am fairly sure the use of that building is the business of every tax payer in harris county. additionally, the nearby convention space that was rebuilt was done so primarily for the rodeo and the prior mentioned off shore trade show.

curious how much money the rodeo, the texans, the hsa, and the offshore trade show put up or if the taxpayers of harris county are responsible for those bonds if revenues fall short. that's right not any of our business

then there is the educational impact the rodeo has as it hands out roughly 800 scholarships each year. curious how many kids went to school because of that scholarship, how many jobs resulted, and what impact has that made on the community.

socially the rodeo is driven by the work of over 20,000 volunteers. curious how that many people would give you days of their year to work on something that was none of their business

we see the impact of some of these events differently and while a private entity it is not none of the business of the people of harris county and the gulf coast

It is my understanding that the HLSR brings more money in than the Texans and Astros combined.

Ive heard that as well but not sure I believe it and certainly not sure how they calculate that.

EDIT: But I heard all three major sports teams so not sure if that would include the Rockets or that soccer team.

the study i had seen was done by the rodeo and the primary focus was on the amount of money brought in from visitors outside the area versus those from the area which is significantly weighted towards the rodeo

second largest such event in north america beyond the calagary stampede and i don't think people who haven't visited truly understand the number of different ways the rodeo is tied to the community

I still don't know how las vegas is surviving.

A lot of people think Trump will win Nevada because so many casino union workers are out of work and democrats rely heavily on bussing them to the polls in groups for elections.

This was probably inevitable and the right thing to do, but man this sucks for the kids who raise the animals and need the money and the businesses that rely on that January/February visitor boom.

I hope they find a way to make room for a scaled down opportunity for the kids to show off their hard work and earn the money they’ve worked for.
Area restaurants are going to take it in the shorts. Places like Saltgrass have hours long waits during the Stock Show because of the influx of participants and attendees. And that is just one area. The entire Fort Worth economy will have a giant hole that can’t be filled.

The most valuable and fascinating part of the Trump Presidency is the unmasking of so many persons and outfits, showing their true essence for all to see. The various Unions have been taken for granted by the rats for so long, and now that has moved to outright contempt. I cannot understand why anyone rendered jobless by Sisolak and his merry band of fraudsters would make any effort to support them. Quite the contrary!

The primary parties responsible for this are probably Betsy Price, Judge Whitley and Greg Abbott. The power has definitely gone to their heads.

They might as well go ahead and cancel the 2022 Stock Show as well. Replace it with a hydroponic organic vegan socially distanced hemp festival

Covid now the third leading cause of death in America, trailing only heart disease and cancer. Probably pretty hard to get insurance for a big in-person event. Not only that, but if they are forced to only have 50% attendance, the ROI might not make much sense.

I was chatting with Michael (of Michael’s Cuisine) last weekend about the possibility of the Stock Show cancelling. Given his proximity to the Stock Show, January is easily his most profitable month. He didn’t think the Stock Show would make any money at 50% capacity, so I think he expected it to cancel. A major blow to his restaurant and the many restaurants near him.

Several of the organizations that raise money for scholarships are meeting this week to discuss what to do and how to do it.
