Big 10 money!

Is the Big Ten also really going to ask their football players to play at least 22 games in 2021? How is that for player safety? And why are they still practicing with no games to play if they are concerned about Covid spread? And how do these large Big Ten state schools bringing back tens of thousands of students amd their tuition payments that don't get the same high end medical attention as the athletes and not be concerned then? Doesn't add up.

There has to be a political bend to these early cancel decisions by these two Power 5 conferences that most of their states are historically blue? Are they trying to add on to how miserable things have been the last 5 months? I'm starting to think so. I hope they change their minds and we their kids play.

They should have invested in Tesla.

I don't think the Big 10 is just going to let Nebraska play for the Big12 this season out of the goodness of their heart. Of course Nebraska could sue and get released from the Grant of Rights, but they better do that quick.
What is the Big10 going to say? Seriously? "We've all voted to go bankrupt this year. Who are you to go salvage your season? What? Iowa, Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan and Michigan State are going with you? Harrumph. Preposterous. We'll sue!" Well sue. We'll sue you back. And if you don't like it we'll just stay with our new friends who think financial suicide is, well, suicide. What's your Big10 network going to be worth without us? Huh? Not very much. Now shut the hell up while we go play a football season. We'll be back next year. A lot richer. And you'll be a lot poorer but a little wiser. Suckers.

Here's what the Big 10 Commish did say.

When Warren was asked specifically by Yahoo Sports if Nebraska could play college football this fall, he gave an answer that would make his hardline predecessor nod with approval.

“No,” he said, firmly. “Not and be a member of the Big Ten Conference.”

Warren’s concise Nebraska rebuttal is a nice window into the bottom line he used to help guide the decision that may ultimately define his career as Big Ten commissioner. He politely told Nebraska that if it goes rogue, it can pack it where the corn doesn’t husk. And the league would be happy to keep its $50 million cut and share it with those who play nice.

Wonder if the contract guarantees a season? Seems to me the conference is in default.
I am certain the coffers of the counselors in-house and the white shoe firms made sure to review the statement released by their Client prior to the Client doing so.

More short-sided thinking than a Schultz-run offense. If there actually is a season then Nebraska holds a ton of leverage. We can talk about contracts and fine lines but there are more forces out there that would be willing to share the expense.

Ohio State set to lose up to $210 million. Nebraska with a wiped out revenue from a whole Big Ten football season has to be way behind revenue wise now compared if they would have stayed in the Big XII back in 2011. #irony

TCU looks like the smartest kids in the class for this whole realignment cycle. Thank you Texas A&M!

Nebraska has a grant of rights with the Big 10. Means Nebraska aint going anywhere soon.
Would be interesting to see how that GOR holds up; especially considering the Big Ten is telling Nebraska they can’t play football this year.

Also did anyone screw up realignment worse than the Big Ten—Nebraska, Rutgers, Maryland...I bet they’d love a mulligan on at least 2/3.

The Big10 has leverage if it's only Nebraska. But if this really happens it won't just be Nebraska, it will be some more Big10 teams that want to play and want the money. There is a tipping point, how many teams and which teams. If it is the big football powers, then the tipping point may be as little as 4 or 5 teams. What's the Big10 without, say OSU, PSU, Michigan and Michigan State? Well it's the Little Pantywaist 10 with a much reduced network and no access to the CFP. And a former commissioner looking for a job.

The tipping point would be either OSU or Michigan. That’s it. The only way they lose one of those teams and remain thought of like they are is if they’d replace that loss with ND.

But there’s no way they’d let that happen.
