PAC-12 may have more problems than COVID

They ask for more than 5 things if you read the demands, many of which are gimmes like covid safety precautions and whatnot. We obviously disagree on how much leverage is had by the players. In the next year we’re certainly gonna find out some answers. I’ll be watching the developments and hopefully some on field product as well.

have read the demands and they are basically asking for things involving covid, racial matters, protecting programs, splitting profits, and the insurance.

this is being pushed by the group out of ucla and the question because what are the truly willing to do to enact change and that comes down to whether or not they are willing to accept potentially the end of the college system as they know it to get the things they are asking because you won't get those things under the current system.

one thing i am interested in watching is whether those who are supposedly backing this are really willing to pay the price to get the change.

mentioned to a friend that one big reason john lewis and others from the 60's were able to create an environment of change was they were willing to accept the costs of their actions. not just in protesting or getting arrested. they knew they were going to get beat, have hoses turned on them, dogs turned loose only armed with a bible and their sunday clothes.

so what are these players willing to give up? what price are they truly willing to pay and is the group that is pushing unionization willing to run the risk they may destroy the system that funds how many scholarships for individuals who would never get to school otherwise?

If you serve a full military career to retirement, the TRICARE health benefit pays 80% of doctor/medical costs and prescription drugs (with co-pay). Dental and vision not covered. Therefore, a retiree is responsible for the rest out-of-pocket. However, there are supplemental policies offered through military organizations at minimal cost ($30-40 per month) that takes care of all co-pays (doctor/medical).

When a military retiree reaches age 65, Medicare becomes the primary insurer and TRICARE assumes the role of secondary payer. Net result is zero out-of-pocket for the retiree for any doctor/medical bills. Still have co-pays for prescriptions (amount varies based on what drugs you're prescribed.) And still have to get other insurance (or pay out of pocket) for dental and vision.

Great benefit, if you're willing/able to serve a full career (and all that wearing the uniform requires.)

thanks for the information, clarification and service

Agreed. I’m very interested to see how willing players are to make a change.

Here’s a good article I just read from CFB writer Bill Connelly of S&P Plus fame. He always has great insight in my opinion.

single biggest issue is the last one and that is centralized control of college sports.

way, way too much money, power, and prestige at risk for the conferences to freely give up control

this reminds me a great deal about the discussion for national health care. in order to make it truly happen you are going to have to be willing to blow everything up under the pretense of hope things will be better

To add to this, veterans who separate before 20 years with any disability (10% +) get free VA healthcare for life. The quality may be hit or miss but that is tough to beat

Unbelievable. This kids are delusional (to put it charitably) but the “sports” media will cheer them on all the way because for whatever reason they want to destroy college sports.

It would be nice if someone could sit these guys down and break the news to them that unless you’re Penei Sewell or a handful of other guys in the PAC-12, your market value without a school’s name written across your chest is just about zero. Seriously, no one is paying money to see some second rate guys in a semipro league. The Arena League is defunct and while the XFL just got bought out of bankruptcy yesterday it’s far from stable, and even last year when it was running the average salary was about $60K. If you want to play in front of thousands of people and be on TV from the ages of 18-21, you’ll need to play college football. Where you get paid a stipend, get a free college education, free meals, free housing, free gear, free tutors, free everything. If that’s not for you, go join the army or something. No one is forcing these dudes to play college football. What a joke!

Also, someone should explain to them the realities of Title IX. That ain’t happening, though.

Sounds close to it. Maybe they’ll just kick em all off the team like a few here would suggest.

some of this stuff again is just insane when you consider costs and the amount of resources required

  • Testing twice per week with an FDA-approved test with less than 1% false negatives
  • Additionally, testing on the day of competition (or within 24 hours of competition for each team that can be quarantined) with an FDA-approved test with less than 5% false negatives, with results delivered at least two hours before competition
  • Automatic medical redshirt for any player who misses any competitions due to a positive test or a mandatory quarantine due to contact tracing
  • Complimentary access to the Big Ten Network for athletes’ family members.
  • An adjustment to the cost-of-living stipend to account for the increase in personal expenses related to limited access that players have to facilities
  • Reimbursement for stipends that were reduced during the summer

Don't forget the biggest benefit: all the coeds they can handle.

I truly feel sorry for the absolute stupidest group of [ Craig James]s on the planet. May the morons get exactly what they want.

Please stop the profanity filters. They ruin every post.

I have a feeling nearly every football player gets the virus at some point this season. And I don't expect any of them to get very sick from it. I wonder how many of those calling for 'player safety' realize they have a higher chance of dying from the flu this year than they do from COVID. The coaches are the ones who are at risk

Best thing all Leagues could do is flatly REFUSE all their demands and freeze out all the players who refuse to participate.

Go get whoever on campus wants to play and let the striking players who are hoping for an NFL career watch their careers go POOF !! Gone !! We will see pretty quickly how long the younger players sit out and if they want to destroy their future NFL careers too.

Call their bluff and bite the bullet for a year with walk on players and then watch the arrogant ones beg to come back after getting left behind for a full season (when some of them will discover too late that their decision was a devastatingly bad career choice).

Gonna have to teach some of them a very hard tough life lesson or this nonsense will never stop. Ever hear of "GIVE EM AN INCH AND THEY WILL THEN DEMAND THAT YOU GIVE EM A MILE".

Be a SUCK UP APPEASER (like the world class suck up appeaser HARBOUGH at Michigan) and the demands will get more and more ridiculous and will destroy college football as we know it.

Draw a line in the sand right here and now and this crap will stop dead in its tracks and never return.
Anyone who disagrees with above post is a [ muschi ]snowflake.

Those who continue to buy into this coronavirus fear pee sitting down.
