Just finished Deadwood. You can tell by the way it ended that it wasn’t supposed to be the end of the series, just the end of that season. I don’t know the backstory, but I’m guessing it got canceled or there was some sort of contract disputes that prevented it from continuing.

I’m hoping I have time to watch the movie today so I can get better closure.
You are correct. Prematurely canceled, but I don't remember the reason. It is a great series...I think you'll enjoy the movie.

rome i remember they cancelled in good part due to the cost of production as well as i thought it started to drop a bit, but i felt deadwood was solid throughout it 3-year run

Believe I read that it cost them something like $100-200 million dollars per season to produce that...called it the most expensive series ever at the time I think, if I remember correctly.

Name a movie where the sequel was better than the original. Don’t count super hero movies, single author serials like Harry Potter, James Bond, or Lord of the Rings. I’ll start.
Christmas Vacation was better than the original.

No way.

Godfather II, Superman II (trivia: who do those two films have in common?)
