FWST: NFL evaluators ripped TCU’s Duggan. But Patterson says he’s ‘a great leader’ on the rise

Both can be true but you can’t say Max didn’t give his all. OL made matters ten times worse than it should have been. Also Max would have unquestionably been in if a first round WR touched someone

Didn't help that he had to spend all of fall camp, and the first half of the season splitting reps with K State's sloppy seconds.

Actually Delton got the vast majority of the snaps in camp and during the first part of the season.. As such, Duggan wasn't adequately prepared like Dalton and Boykin were, who also had the benefit of a redshirt season..

Speaking from experience, no evaluator who's even remotely worth a [ Finebaum ] would have said something like that. I can guarantee you those quotes came from dudes who watched a small amount of film and barely have any idea what Max's background is. I would also be willing to bet those quotes came from guys who work for horsesh** teams. They're anonymous because they're embarrassing.

A lot of that had to do with our line breaking down. So often he was running for his life which ironically turned out to be one of our better plays last year.

max missed a number of throws early in the year when the line play was acceptable and he just flat missed an open receiver down the field.

mid range passes he often showed no touch and it was not uncommon on some of his deep throws the ball would be either overthrown or end up landing out of bounds.

he got better over the course of the year and you can see the progress in the tech game where he made maybe his best deep throw of the year on the touchdown to reagor and made several very nice throws on the move.

Think he has some pretty good upside. Made some pretty good plays last year with his legs while running for his life quote a bit. Raw talent is there. Hopefully year 2 will show much improvement(if there is a year 2 this season?).

If I recall the original article correctly from ESPN (because we know that Drew wouldn't have been scrounging quotes from NFL folk), it just says something like "coordinator". Don't think it was any more specific than that. Not sure how NFL offices are organized but you can't take an elevator in my company HQ without sharing it with at least three "coordinators". (pre-COVID scenario)

Thanks. PFF keeps the drop stats for college?

here is a link to pff's final rankings for quarterback play for 130 teams last year according to them.

https://www.pff.com/news/college-pff-rankings-starting-quarterback-rankings-for-2019

i think you would have to have a subscription to the stats, but they do refer to the drops issues impacting one metric for max.

interestingly if you look at the pff you will find a number of big 10, acc, and sec programs who are rated loyal including auburn with sec boy wonder bo nix.

in response to the comments by some max was a true freshman if you look at the ncaa pass efficiency numbers for true freshmen quarterbacks who were the primary starters you find six guys.

1) kedon slovid, usc 282 - 392, 71.9%, 3,502 yards, 30 td : 9 int, 167.60 rating
2) sam howwell, unc 259-422, 61.4%, 3,641 yards, 38 td : 7 int., 160.2 rating
3) jayden daniels, asu, 205 - 338, 60.65%, 2,943 yards, 17 td : 2 int, 149.2 rating
4) bo nix, auburn, auburn, 217 - 339, 57.6%, 2,542 yards, 16 td : 6 int, 125.0 rating
5) max duggan, tcu 181- 339, 53.4%, 2,077 yards, 15 td : 10 int, 113.60 rating
6) ryan hillinski, so. carolina 236 - 406 , 58.1% , 2,357 yards, 11 td : 5 int , 113.40 rating

Howwell - 94 attempts, 35 yards for 0.4/carry
Daniels - 125 attempts, 355 yards for 2.8/carry
Nix - 97 attempts, 313 yards for 3.2/carry
Duggan - 130 attemps, 555 yards for 4.3/carry
Hilinski - 33 attempts, -55 yards for -1.7/carry

max made a number of big plays with his feet, but this isn't wacker's veer offense and unless we see bill snyders qb run based offense n the frogs near future the ability to throw the ball is going to be critical for the success of this offense (along with receiver, oline etc.. for those who will rush to defend max)
