Austin A-S: Surely the Longhorns can stop TCU ... right?

By Cedric Golden

This Thursday edition of nuggets is dedicated to long-suffering Texas fans who were given a dose of respect from football coach Tom Herman, who understands the degree of near-panic that has proliferated the fan base since the Longhorns nearly dropped a potential program-changing meeting against Kansas.

The Horns travel to Cowtown on Saturday to play TCU, which is having its own set of issues with three losses in their last four games. A win over Texas would reverse their fortunes and move the Horns closer to the bronze in the Big 12 behind unbeatens Oklahoma and Baylor.

So will they get stops this time around against a TCU team that’s averaging only 20 points a game in its last two?

Texas is giving up 48 points a game

in their last game.

Stats are fun.

My working theory on TCU's offense is: (1) There are very few teams in the country that TCU can pass against with decent efficiency. Kansas and SMU have two of the worst pass defenses in the country. Our passing stats were actually pretty good against Kansas, but not very good against SMU. (2) Therefore, we need our offensive line and running game to be dominant for our offense to look competent, which I don't expect to happen against Texas.

Of course, performance isn't identical week to week, teams can get better or worse. So maybe Duggan makes a leap and the offense starts to click. But I just have no confidence in Cumbie to get our offense going, either now or ever.

If Gary knew what was wrong he woulda fixed it aready,...

Also, while you all like to focus on the O, the D is stinking it up as bad or worse. Gawd only knows how many points the Horns are gonna score on this crap defense.

Seemingly, the offense is destined to continue on this impotent path until it is capable of mastering an effective

technique for playing pitch and catch. When and if.....is the question?

Really hoping after Gary looked at the numbers and realized we outgained KSU by 100 yards, outrushed them, and won time of possession but still lost, he'll tell Sonny full speed ahead on the air raid style pass attack because we have nothing to lose at this point. Please just ditch the weird hybrid that doesn't seem to work at all

Reading the UT 247 page, a lot of their fans are just as pessimistic about this game as we are. They don’t have any confidence that they can stop our run game and are worried about their secondary against Reagor. They also have seemingly only seen the stats that show us as top defense in the B12 and not paid attention to our actual games because they’re worried about being able to move to ball
