Who would be the Coach?

How about any of these guys?

Current Head Coaches (Alphabetical Order)
Jason Candle, Toledo (39 years old)
Seth Littrell, North Texas (41)
Sonny Dykes (49) (Might be too old)
Jeff Monken (52) (Might be too old)

Current Assistant Coaches (Alphabetical Order)
Dave Aranda, LSU DC (43 years old)
Tony Elliott, Clemson Co-OC (39)
Alex Grinch, OU DC (38)
Jeff Scott, Clemson Co-OC (39)
Brent Venables, Clemson DC (48) (might be too old)

I sincerely doubt any of them would even make our preliminary list. And there won't be a list until we have a more established AD. Donati cannot touch GP.

Get Joe Brady in here as an OC. He is making $400k at LSU. Bump him to $1mil, and for the love of God, do not meddle in the offense.

Is Morris that good an OC? I know he had a great reputation at Clemson but we didn't see much at SMU or in his current gig to indicate he's good. Having said that I think his experience alone would make him an upgrade at TCU. Whatever happens we won't be looking for a head coach any time soon. As you are getting at, its much more likely we bring in a new OC..The questions really is do we bring in just an OC and make him work with the current staff or actually let him hire his own guys...

Are we SURE we need an OC?

I'm not sunshine pumping on Cumbie but GP won't let him run the offense like he wants to. Let him run the Air Raid for which you hired him and Meach to do and recruited the players to that end. Then, let's make a decision after the season. It's the defense that's losing our games, Gary, and that's why you would be well off for the future, to look again at your hold card, it may have changed.

he wanted to, but he listened to his staff and let them run their offense right?

he was willing to take the risk and trust them.

compare that to running tempo from the middle of the third quarter on against smu to come back to where you have a chance to win the game and you slow the freaking tempo down so you can try to run out the clock..........
Absolutely - just saying that old habits die hard and GP is way more stuck in his way than Coach O who does not have the HC skins on the wall that GP does and frankly is probably desperate to keep his dream job.

I think this is what we need to do. Let Cumbie call it as he pleases for the rest of the year and see how it shakes out. If he can't perform better than what we have seen, go another direction. But Gary needs to decide to be involved or not be involved and hire accordingly.

He's hot, that's for sure.

It's the defense that's losing our games

The defense has been poor in the two losses, there is no doubt.

These are the combined 1st half passing stats in our two losses. 9/24 for 46 yards......and we've turned it over 4 times, once for a TD and once inside our own 5 yard line. That's a 37.5% completion rate and just over 5 yards per completion. Exactly TWO yards per attempt. Add four turnovers to that.

2nd halves have been better but as far as establishing a tone at the beginning of games, the offense (and specifically the passing offense) has been a complete utter failure. The stats are almost mind boggling. 46 passing yards in 60 minutes of football!!!

Again, the defense has stunk, but to say they are the reason we are losing is only telling half the story.

Why would Brady leave?
Heck he could be next in line when Orgeron retires. Orgerron is 59.

Coincidentally, we start ballgames hoping to grind it out, ball control, and hang on to win. Maybe the first half philosophy is the problem.

I would sure hope Candle would make a preliminary list. He's going to be a hot commodity.

Cannot argue with the facts but giving up 41 and 49 points to a defense that has, or had, a reasonable 4-5 players that would make 1st. team all Big 12 and a senior secondary against mid grade competition, well GP come on and quit blaming the crowd, your freshman QB, your OC, injuries and just a deluge of blah, blah, blah.

No doubt, although it is actually 34 and 42 points.

Look around college football. Giving up 34 and 42 points isn't exactly unheard of. It kind of happens sometimes. I think we "held" SMU to their season low. On the other hand, throwing for 46 yards in 60 minutes of football is a triple-option type stat where they might throw it 5-6 times a game. We go from the shotgun and have at a minimum 3 WRs out wide every play. Hell, our offense is called the Air Raid.

Again, not excusing the defense because it's inexcusable (especially the "effort" Saturday), but the offense believe it or not has been worse IMO. It;s just that our bar for each is so high/low.

Well for one thing, GP is 59. Are you intimating that he'll be retiring soon?

59 still leaves you a lot of years as an HC. Saban is nearing 70. Do you think he's retiring anytime in the near future? Coach O is home and has absolutely no reason to leave for the next 3-4 years at least.

If you got a 150% raise, would you leave your job? I would certainly consider it.

I think Gary needs to accept the fact that his defense is going to have to give up points and yards in order for us to keep pace offensively in this conference.

I realize that it’s possible that a lot of our success in ‘14 and ‘15 was due to two exceptional talents, but the evidence is there that the ball control offense hasn’t worked for us in the B12. We tried that in 2012, 2013, 2017 and 2018. We were only successful in 2017 with that approach. 2016 was an unusual year in that we were moving away from Meacham and it was really neither air raid or ball control. Regardless, it didn’t work.

Our run percentage has only increased about 7-8% since ‘14 and ‘15...but the tempo has slowed way down. That seems to be the variable that made the difference and we’ve seen it work this year when we try it.

The TCU job is very highly thought of in coaching circles, there would be tremendous interest including and beyond these 3

Candle - Toledo has taken a step back since he took over

Littrell - What has he proven? He hasn't even been able to win the division in a very very weak Conference USA. CUSA has been the weakest conference according to Sagarin the past 2 years

Monken - If you are OK with the triple option

Grinch - Hasn't even been a DC at OU for half a season yet, what has he proven?

first half against smu max was bad and the fumbles derailed the offense.

first half against iowa state for some reason sonny went completely away from what had some success.

consider on the scoring drive we see frogs run 6 times and have 3 pass plays. you could see some rhythm in the run game start to develop.

frogs end up running 7 more plays the remainder of the first half running 1 and throwing it 6 times.

they have to be aggressive, have to work to establish the run, utilize tempo, and throw inside the hash marks.

This is dumber than the likes of programs such as NC State, Illinois and Colorado seriously thinking they could get GP.... AFTER we joined the Big 12.
